not got this phone yet but i will get it unlocked

is it possible to root and still receieve updates through KIES?

What do you mean unlocked? SIM unlock and root are different things.

If you root, its best not to use official updates as you'll have to re-root every time.

unlocked as in SIM unlocked - not tied to any carrier so no bloatware

SIM unlocked just means you can use any SIM. You will still have branded carrier software and be tied into updates from them. You would have to flash unbranded software if its bloat you dont want, or as you said -root and flash a custom ROM.

also will S3 get jelly bean

Almost definitely.

if you buy phones from carphone warehouse the phones come without bloatware

this was the case with my htc desire

Yes that is correct. CPW give out the same unbranded handset for all the networks. Thats how if you go to CPW, you can get a phone on contract with your favourite network, even though you cant get that phone from the network at all.

cheers

how you finding the phone?

on the fence about which is the better specs: galaxy nexus or S3

what you think Dan?

They both have their pros and cons.

I love the S3. Its much more powerful than the Gnex. Also the Technology Samsung has put into it in both hardware and software is actually amazing me. The functionality is way above and beyond vanilla Android.

The Gnex however is a developer phone. It will always get the updates to Android first over anything else. Custom vanilla roms will be released quicker as teh source is always released in its entirety for Nexus phones. This means no driver tweaks needed by devs.

I am very happy with the S3 and given how advanced the rom is, I could never imagine having an AOSP better than this.
