Root [International] Software update

Gidza

Lurker
Hi guys

I have a Note 2 which was locked to O2 and got it unlocked by downgrading from 4.3 to 4.1 but now I cant update software as it keeps saying "device has been modified". How do I get this resolved. I was hoping to upgrade to at least back to 4.3 or higher.

Cheers

Gidza

Hi Gidza, I've moved your post into our Note 2 forum, where possibly some of our Samsung experts might be able to assist. Any problems PM me.

It maybe because you've done something that wasn't "official" for an O2 version Samsung, and sometimes manufacturers firmware updates can fail with devices that have been rooted, hacked or modified. The only thing I can suggest myself as I don't have a Note 2, would be a custom ROM, which would bring it up to the latest versions of Android, but it would lose Touchwiz and possibly other Samsung specific features.

I can only surmise that rooting will not allow the OTA update.
As a general rule of thumb, while rooted, do not take OTA updates. You will probably lose root.
Now, do you know if you have a custom recovery? If so, you may be able to find a rom that has the latest updates baked into them, and then simply flash an updated rom.

If rooting and associated terms confuse you, don't worry. We can guide you:)

All these terms are Greek to me[emoji1]

Please would appreciate if you can step by step me through the process

ok, instead of typing all that here, I would like to offer some links to read thru so you can familiarize yourself with root. ;)

It's alot to take in, I know, but the more you familiarize yourself with it, the better.

Now, I'll move this thread into the root subforum for your carrier so that things can be discussed there, and please, if you have any questions, just ask.

Also, this may not be as complicated as you think. As far as the phone being unlocked, I'm not totally sure if returning to stock (and subsequently taking OTA's ) will muck up your unlocked state. Perhaps someone else can chime in on that.
Let it be known that if unrooting, Edit--clarification--->>>(via firmware flash ala ODIN), taking OTA's will wipe your device clean.
