Root [International Tegra 3] Please Help Unlocking & Rooting 3 Branded HOX

Gags111

Newbie
Hi,
My HOX is 3 Branded and want to know if it is easy to root? Or does that make no difference at all?

I have trawled through loads of Forums but cannot get a definitive answer.

I'm not a novice when it comes to android but I am for Unlocking & Rooting.

I have had HTC phones for a 3 years (Desire & Desire HD and now HOX since May) and have only now decided to go down the rooting path after looking at all the forums on how it will open my eyes to the real possibilities with android.

I have followed a few initial instructions on how to unlock the bootloader but when I try and Hold the Power button down and Power button Simultaneously to unlock the bootloader, nothing happens but phone restarts with the 3 branded splash screen. Have I missed a Step?

1/ Does my phone need to sim free(unlocked from 3) before I can access the bootloader.

2/is the 3 branded phone restricting me customising my phone?

3/Am I doing something wrong(yes obviously)

4/Am I missing the bigger picture.

Everyones input would be much appreciated

Thanks:confused:

Nope you should be able to access the bootloader with volume down and power on any HTC handset. Do you have fastboot enabled? I think on the stock ROM it's under the Power menu in settings? Turn that off and see if that sorts it.

Alternatively, if you've ADB installed (you should have if you've been on HTCdev and downloaded the tools, failing that, we have a copy here), you can connect the phone to the PC, turn on USB Debugging, open ADB and type "adb reboot bootloader".

Let me know if either of those work.

Thanks, turned off fastboot and got access to bootoader, there was quite a lot of info on that page, anything I should take note of before proceeding?
Will post how I got on tomorrow, thanks for your help

Nope, you just need to be able to access it, the unlock process is the same for all versions.

There's a video walkthrough stickied at the top of the forum if that makes things easier? Just shout again if you get stuck, I should be on hand if it's quiet at work. :)

Problem I'm having now is that the Htc Drivers failed to install so I reinstalled Htc Sync and I'm still getting the same failure message?

Thanks for the reply,
No, it say's no device connected when the htc sync box comes up,
In device manager the box(other devices connected) says HTC with a x next to it?(when the device is connected.
Looked for the drivers on my phone but there seems to be no details there either?

Sorry, I meant to add, does it work when your phone is in fastboot? Boot to the bootloader, select fastboot and connect the phone to the PC, does it display Fastboot USB about a 3rd of the way down the screen?

Also, what's your environment? Win 7/Vista/8? I'll see if I can dig out the driver files for you, not including HTC Sync.

I had a similar issue i.e. drivers failed to install properly and I was unable to unlock the bootloader until I installed some.

Try here to download drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845584
