Root [International Tegra 3] Possibly bricked...

Okay so. today i decided it was time to root my phone, i followed a guide off a website ( they forgot to include the part where you SAVE A BACK UP OF YOUR PHONE! )
so that part was overlooked.. i followed it up by installing a bad rom from miui... it is stuck on bootlooping on there logo screen, sometimes it goes past and gets stuck on the lock screen :(

i tried googling i've been doing so for the past 4 hours thinking i've screwed my phone =/

could someone please help?

thanks, i've done a few things on there already, and still hasn't fixed anything i got a glimmer of hope when it didn't die instantly on the lock screen it stayed on for 20 sec then it went back into the shut down loop.

is there a way to get a newer and working rom onto the internal hd? using cmd flash or something? as it's the rom that is screwed .. kinda hoping i can

So here a method which always works (many people have issues with flashing RUU's etc. having a bootlop.)

  • Download a RUU from here, thanks to Football!
  • Now open the .exe and make sure that it fully started.
  • Don't click anything, just go to windows icon and search for %temp%.
  • You will now find some folders, just search through these folders for the ROM.zip.
  • If you found it, you can copy it to your desktop or somewhere else.
  • Extract it with WinRar,7-zip or something like that and take the boot_signed.img and system.img.
  • Now copy the two files into the folder where the fastboot.exe is placed (if you have installed the Android SDK, it should be in platform-tools)
  • Plug in your One X, go into the bootloader and go into fastboot mode.
  • Navigate with the cmd in the folder with the fasboot.exe and the two .img's.
  • Now type in that:

Code:
fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img
After that:

Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
If everything worked, just reboot:

Code:
adb reboot

i tried to do this section but i cant find the RUU that i need.. Aus / Vodafone and my number 1.28 or something i cant remember how to find out what it was

i just PM'd you el presidente :D.

Clockwork: recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru

and i've been into recovery but no files are present. :(

The good news is from your PM, you're on a decent, fully working version of CWM. A couple of versions prevented the phone from charging and stopped the phone from being readable via USB in recovery.

What's the exact error message you're receiving when you attempt to mount via USB?

E:unable to open ums lunfile ( no such file / directory exists )
and it just says over and over

Can you also link me the guide you followed please? Did it tell you to flash a boot.img and erase the cache via fastboot?

Ok, try this method first of all. You'll need to download ROM zip file (I'd go for ARHD or something, just to get your phone back to a working state), then once up and running, we could take a backup so you've got something to restore too, just in case your phone didn't like your chosen ROM.

Alternatively, we could try flashing another recovery (TWRP or something like that), see if we could mount the phone that way.

Trying the methods now.
i don't have the link atm sorry was on a forum i found randomly about 7 hours ago.. 2000 tabs ago lol, it had me flash CWM then it had me place miui zip into the SD storage of the phone and then install using CWM on the phone, it didn't have me delete anything but i have since tried clearing cache files etc. from another guide to try and unbrick it

Go to the zip file you downloaded, open it with Winrar/winzip and look for a file called "boot.mg".

Copy that file to the fastboot/adb folder on your PC. Reboot your phone to bootloader (the white screen with the skateboarding androids), then select Fastboot. Connect the phone to your PC and about a 3rd of the way down the screen, it should say Fastboot USB in red writing? If yes, you need to open a command prompt on your PC, navigate to the fastboot/adb folder and type:

Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Press enter, let it do it's thing

Code:
fastboot erase cache

Press enter.

Reboot and let me know what happens please.

Which zip? the miui original? or the updated one i downloaded

Excellent! :)

Yes, please take a backup! Be handy if you could find the guide too, I'd love to point their omission out to them so others don't make the same mistake.

ill have a look tomorrow and see if i cant find the link through all my history.. haha thank you for all your help, had a me a little worried.

I'm on t-mobile in the UK and we still haven't had the 4.04 update, so who knows when we'll get jellybean.

So, I'm going to root. Is there a quide on here somewhere to follow? Is there a JB ROM with Sense working well now, or should I wait until the official One X one is released?

Yep, check the video guide in one of the stickies and it'll walk you through it. Alternatively, I can write something for you tomorrow if you like?

There are no Sense Jelly Bean ROMs at the moment, but the CM10 nightly builds are relatively stable (I'm running one now). Battery isn't as good, but still acceptable.

There's also a ton of excellent Sense ICS ROMs that are worth investigating too.
