Root [International Tegra 3] Stuck on startup screen, no more clockwork. Help please.

Hey guys,

So I just got my One X yesterday, and while I was waiting for it to be shipped, I'd been reading on rooting/flashing etc as I'm completely new to Android.

So I rooted it end of my first day, got clockwork running, created a backup and found myself a nice ROM (Viper X by Team Venom), thought I'd check it out. Selected custom installation because I'd been downloading apps all day and didn't want them gone, selected all the bloatware I wanted gone and went through with the installation. I guess I did something wrong along the way because although it said it flashed the ROM successfully, it wouldn't go past the startup screen, just kept restarting over and over. So I went into clockwork and restored it back to stock and gave it another shot. This time however, I went for the full installation and like a complete noob, selected full wipe. (God damnit, Ted's mother was right; nothing good happens after 2am >.>) 15% into the wipe, it restarted and since then, I haven't been able to get it to start. It won't boot to clockwork because I figure I must have wiped it along with my backup. I tried flashing it from command prompt but to no avail. Help pl0x. :(

Thanks.

Yes, it does. I flashed clockwork a couple of times and it says its done but when I reboot my phone, it heads straight to the startup screen and stays there.

Man, I hope I can get this thing running before my folks wake up lol.

I did have clockwork and did make a backup but whilst flashing my first rom, I accidently checked full wipe so I don't think my backups exist anymore. As for clockwork, I flashed it after the whole incident but it won't go to recovery after the reboot for some reason. I selected reboot bootloader after flashing clockwork. (that should take me to the recovery screen right?) I tried powering down and starting up again but that goes straight to the start screen. Oh and the stock recovery and the reset factory settings options in bootloader redirect me to the start screen as well. I'm kind of panicking here, feels like I'm running out of options but then again, I'm an android nab so my knowledge is limited.

Boot loader is different from recovery in order to boot into recovery you need to find the key combo to enter it
Examples-volume down and power
Volume up and power
Try those see if you can get into recovery :)
Ill be here all night to help :) we will have your phone fixed before your folks awaken :)

Thanks a lot mate :) Vol down and power takes me to fastboot. I just tried vol up and power and that just keeps rebooting my phone, like a small vibrate and the start screen, over and over for as long as I hold them down.

Did you flash the boot image with the command:

Fastboot flash boot boot.img

Before you installed the ROM/before you booted into it for the first time? Because if the way the HTCdev unlock works, kernels (boot.img) have to be flashed manually as the recovery won't write to the boot partition.

Your backups should still work, even after a full wipe. :)

Erm, no. I didn't flash any boot.img. This is the first I've read about boot.img actually. I followed Cursed4eva's video guide and unlocked my bootloader, and then flashed clockwork the first time.

Oh and I do have HBOOT. Bootloader is currently in Hboot, when I switch to fastboot, the 'fastboot' in my options is replaced by Hboot.

It's sort of moot, I didn't see that the flash appeared to have failed so that won't matter yet, sorry. As Starscream has mentioned, do you see the options he has listed in hboot?

OK SWEET! Clockwork is back up! :D Weird because when I selected recovery earlier, it would just get stuck on the start screen. Anyway, I just checked restore, my backup still shows so I think it should be ok now. I'll keep you guys posted!

Sweet let me know if it restores and boots up :)

Restore complete! Yay! Phone's back up and running now, thanks to you guys. Any advice on flashing that ROM now?

When you flash that ROM wipe cache/dalvik cache and wipe your data can you post a link for this ROM for I can check it out?

The last thing it asks me is if I'm using a custom kernel. Am I? :S I read a little about them and seems that it has something to do with overclocking your GPU, etc. I've been checking no the past couple of installations.

Ok, so I started the installation (selected no for the 'are you using a custom kernel' section again) and like 5-10% in the installation, it went straight to the start screen and got stuck again. Gonna try it out again and check yes this time :S
