Hi all.

Apologies in advance if a similar thread exists, I did look though.

I have a HTC Wildfire S. As I'm a n00b regarding Android but have worked in the IT admin industry previously I still can't seem to get the device to receive data.

It does say that it's connected to my LAN. It has an IP address and I can PING it from a PC that is also connected via WiFi. I have removed any security settings i.e. WEP but to no avail. I do need to enter DNS info on all devices connected to the network but have managed to find where to enter DNS information. (Wireless & Networks > Wifi Settings > Advanced).

I have disabled and enabled Mobile network but if I try to go to Market for example I get the following message "A network error has occoured Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen"

I have never been able to get this device connected and have run out of ideas I downloaded the manual but it just rells me to do what I have already done.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are we talking about just the market or all internet traffic?

First make sure you are routing properly. Use http://www.appbrain.com/app/network-ping/com.ldstg.Android.NetworkPing and see if you can ping out to the default gateway. If you get a response then ping a known internet ip. Usually if you use your ISP's address you'll see fewer hops.

Finally, go to your browser and enter the ip, not the url, this will bypass the dns server. If the page loads, try using an open dns server. you can use Google's open dns at 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

As for the market ... it requires port 5228 be open. It sounds like you have your router locked down pretty tight. Make sure the port is open then on your phone under menu>settings>wireless & networks>Wifi settings long press on your network and forget it. Then rescan and reconnect.
