Help Internet access only thru WiFi

Absolute Android newbie here...I've had my MyTouch 4g Slide for three days now...
I'm able to access the 'Net via WiFi, but not via the Tmobile cellular network.
Using the Setup app, I select "Wireless & networks", check "Mobile networks", and I show to be connected to the "T-Mobile" network operator. My signal strength shown under "My Devices" is 10.

Any ideas?

On the top line just to the left of the cellular signal strength bars there should be an icon indicating the data network. Mine says 4G and has up and down arrows showing data movement and direction. Are you able to see something like that? If not, it would appear that you don't have a data network connection.
