Help Internet connection problem?

Hello! I'm very new here, and even so to Android. So I have an older phone, an LG Optimus F3 running Android version 4.1.2 that is having some issues.

It has a cracked screen, but it's not damaged in any way internally as far as I know.
I got it second hand this morning and it was perfectly functional. However, now that it's been a couple hours, nothing seems to work.

First of all, MODo Computer music player refuses to open it's example files after restarting from a crash while playing a .webm file. So, I clear it's data, uninstall it and go to play store expecting to have to reinstall it. However, when I open Play store, it immediately tells me that there is no connection and to check my settings. So I connect to and try again on all 3 of my possible Wifi connections, two of which are from a WNR200v3 and the other from an AT&T router. Play still will not open. I restart the phone many times with the same results on all wifi networks.

I decided to check if the internet works at all, and google.com gives me 11 certificate errors. I don't know why, and I have to spam continue constantly to even get to a usable page.

I don't have service on this device yet so I cannot try that, but Wifi DID work until now.
I tried clearing cache and data for all of Google Play's stuff, with no results.

I also tried with another, much older phone, a Samsung Exhibit 4G connected to the same Wifi networks with no issues opened play store and google.com with no certificate or connection errors.

Ideas, suggestions? I'd rather not factory reset this phone, but it is feasible at this point.

Certificate errors and Play being unable to connect, that could be that the phone's date and time are wrong. Check the date and time in settings are actually correct. For a used phone, it's always best to factory reset it anyway, because you don't know for sure what the previous owner had been doing with it, e.g. malware, provided it's not rooted.

Other thing, check non of the installed security certificates have been disabled. Failing that, it could be something much more serious. Do you know if this phone is rooted or not? If it is, could be the previous owner has been messing with things they shouldn't. Did you actually do a factory reset at all when you first got it.

I did a complete factory reset first. Also, I'm not sure if you've noticed but it was working for a while again today, and doesn't now.

I'm certain this phone is not rooted, seller said specifically it wasn't.
