I just set up a new Zytek wireless repeater in our house, because the wireless router is in the basement and is not strong enough to reach the entire upstairs. Its set up so the original wireless router SSID is hidden, and only the repeated SSID is visible (which has a separate SSID and WPA2 passkey). My own Boost android, my PS3, and the laptop I'm posting this from all connect and work through the repeater. My father's RAZR MAXX however, does not. It connects, grabs an IP adress and is listed in the router's DHCP table. Despite this, the internet does not work. Before my old repeater stopped working, it was able to connect fine through it so I'm not sure whats wrong.

Help Internet not working when connected to wi-fi

I have had wifi trouble logging into a network protected signal at the University of Washington. They password protect the wifi, but you have to connect before entering, so it is weird. What I did was connect, memorize the wifi hotspot, and enter the password, but still no internet. After turning wifi on/off, still no signal. So I rebooted the phone, and viola, it worked. I still cannot explain why.
In your case, I would try the following steps:
1) Try rebooting the wifi by turning it off and on. You can easily tell whether the Razr actually has internet because the grey wifi symbol in the notification bar will turn blue.
2) Hardboot the phone by holding the power and volume down buttons for ten seconds. It will restart automatically.
3) Unplug your router and wifi repeater and reboot those.
4) Try new settings in the Zytek to identify itself as a seperate router, rather than mirror the same SSID (or do i misunderstand your setup?)...

The SSID on the repeater is different than the router, I've had problems in the past with that. I've also tried turning off the phone's wifi and turning it back on, and trying unsecured networks.
Should have tried restarting the phone, not sure why I didn't. Try that when my father gets home.

Log into your router and enable quality of service monitoring. If your phone
continuously connects and disconnects it is because of a buffer overflow caused by the phone cycling wifi on and off to conserve power. When it does this it causes the connection to fail because of a buffer overflow in the router. By enabling the qos it allows handshaking that makes the upload and downloads sychronized between the router and the phone.
By default many routers have this function disabled because it decreases
throughput.

I was having the same problem. Brand new Razr Maxx, when I tried to connect to my wifi: it obtained an IP address but could not connect through the browser.
:shakehands: Solved: On my router settings I changed the wireless security from WPA/WPA2 to WPA only.
My router is a NetGear WRN2000 on version 1.2.3.7NA. When I tried WPA2 by itself or WPA/WPA2 the phone was unable to connect to the internet with Wifi Enabled.
I forget why I ever enabled WPA2 but i think there was a reason. I need WPA because my linux's realtek wireless card does not support WPA2. That's why I had WPA/WPA2 enabled on the router. Soon enough, I am sure, I will find out which device used WPA2. I already had to tell my Windows Vista to use WPA and not WPA2.
I had the build number 6.5.1-167_DHD-14_M2-5, Dec 28, 2011 installed. A bit to my surprise my brand new phone is actually more than 5 months old. Since then there has been a software update: so I updated to build 6.5.1-167_DHD-14_M3-8, Mar 8, 2012 (System Version 6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US). Unfortunately, the problem still exists: I can only connect when my router is set to WPA but not WPA/WPA2 nor WPA2 only :fight:
This is a problem that I hope Motorola/Verizon resolve. I notice that they have been tackling software issues with the wifi since the launch of the MAXX. I hope this becomes part of their issues.

Well, I went to do laundry today and, to my surprise, I was able to connect to the WPA/WPA2 network. It turns out they even have the same router. However the difference is that mine is not labeled with a version but theirs is the WRN2000 v2. So this whole issue could be inherent to the routers in use. Again, I would recommend setting your router to WPA only if you are having the problem of aquiring an IP but not able to connect to the internet.
