Internet of things

We don't need a toilet connected to the internet, but the toilet needs to change. That's why Bill Gates wanted to change it. Though it's weird, I watched something earlier as to why he was doing this. He wanted to have someone design a toilet that does not need any pluming. There are about 2 billion people in the world without running water and a sewer system. In America we are fortunate enough to have this, but others don't. So, a toilet that needs no sewer system will benefit those without a sewer system as their water would no longer be polluted by their waste.

Bill does some interesting things with his money. I would like to see if by 2018 he has fulfilled his goal of finding a cure for one type of disease.

Might lead to less water being used, but you would still need a system to get used water from laundry, bathing, lawn watering, dishwashing somewhere to purify it.

There are some kind of chemical toilets for camping. I'd like to know what Antarctic researchers use. You can't put pipes below ground.

It means that the big companies - Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple etc. with cloud service want to program your thermostat, coffee maker, hot water heater. Turn your lights on and off. Hook up cameras so you can keep tabs on family. Program your television and radio. Have your fridge tell you when to buy food. All in the name of efficiency and advertising.

All most people see is the convenience. Half of America never learned to program a VCR anyway.

The real problem with this is people who can't get any kind of connection to the internet. Rural areas in particular. You can use satellite, but it's slow. From what I've been reading, America's broadband connections are not the best for covering everyone. So will the few be cut off in favor of collecting data and serving the already haves? That is not fair considering a lot of services are mostly online.

I can't program a coffee pot. I make coffee anywhere from 12A to 6A. If I set it for 4A, in the first case I'd have to override it anyway, so why bother. I can program a DVR.

Our electric utility does this, but you can't opt out.

People are crazy. Forget about the security part, I just don't need any of this crap. I'm not a baby, I can do things for myself. I don't need my house and the overseers it will be connected to trying to guess when I want a cup of coffee or when it's bedtime. I don't even use Google Now because it is creepy.

I love and use google now, but I do agree with you about the other parts. I definitely don't need nor want a know-it-all house:rolleyes:

I read this in the (analog) newspaper and it made me think of this thread.

I don't want these things using their internet to b*tch about us behind our backs

LOL! I can see it now...

"My garage door opener was totally gossiping about me! He was teasing the toilet because he knows if I pull into the driveway at over 20 mph, it's gonna be time to flush soon.":p

If it gets me a man... :D

Your smart television knows what kind of men you are attracted to by studying the dilation of your pupils while you watch tv. If a man fitting those parameters comes within 50 yards of your house, the lights dim, scented candles light themselves, and the stereo starts playing make-out music. ;):p

Damn! I hope not. The Vulcan is enough of a jerk at times and Yasiel Puig is too young.
