Help Internet pass-through?

Out of the blue for no apparent effort on my part while plugged in to the computer I usually plug in to at work Internet pass- through came on. This allows me to surf the web without using mobile data or a Wi-Fi network. I haven't received an OS upgrade or anything like that. Any idea why this would suddenly be available? Android version 5.0.1, HTC Sense 6.0, Software number 4.20.531.4.

Well I didn't find out why this happened now but it did find out how to set it up if anyone is interested in having a second internet device available while using your computer to charge via USB.

1 Tap on Settings icon
2. In the Wireless and Networks section, Tap on More
3. Tap Mobile network sharing
4 In the USB section tap on USB network setting
5. Tap on Internet pass-through

I've got some more info on this Internet pass-through thing. It only appears to work when I'm using the cable that came with my RE camera. I wonder what's up with that?

This has been a feature on HTC devices since at least 2012. My old HTC One V had this enabled as does my Desire 816. You do need to have the full HTC driver package installed from Sync Manager installed (you the Remote NDIS Driver), but it should be available from the notifications menu when you plug into your pc, under USB connected. I have had this come in handy at work since they no longer allow routers.

Thanks for the info riggerman0421. I do have HTC Sync Manager installed on the PC where it works. The funny thing is though if I use a generic USB cable which charges my M8 to connect to that PC I can't start Internet Pass Through. It only works with the cable that came with my RE camera. Lord only knows what I did with the cable that came with the M8. It was black like every other cable from every other device I've had. Are there any distinguishing marks on the OEM HTC USB cable?
