Internet Sharing

Hello all

I am looking for an application/way to do the following:

I have a desktop PC with a broadband internet connection but the PC has no WiFi.

I have a laptop that does have WiFi.

I have a LG Optimus One (P500) that does have WiFi.

My question: Is there any way that I can use my LG Optimus one's WiFi capabilities to transfer the internet connection from my PC to my laptop?

PS I do not want to root my phone.

Thanx in advance

I think you misunderstood me. I want to use my phone to create a wireless access point for my PC's internet connection, not the other way around.

Let me explain it like this:

I want to connect my phone via USB to my PC which have broadband internet.
Then I want to connect my Laptop to my phone, using WiFi in order to connect the PC's internet connection to my laptop. In other words, the phone must serve as some sort of "router".

I believe htc phones are the only ones that can do it. It's a matter of hardware support and drivers. Most phones simple do not allow you to share the internet from a pc to a phone.

The only way to do this is to have 2 network cards on your desktop. You then make the desktop the gateway machine that assigns an IP address to the laptop, which is connected via ethernet cable to the desktop. Then, you make the laptop another gateway so it can assign an IP to your Android via a regular wifi DHCP connection.

So I'm going to guess you'll need to buy another NIC for your desktop, which makes it not worthwhile. Might as well just use the laptop as the internet source for the phone.

-edit-

Thought of another possibility: buy a wireless NIC for the desktop. That allows you to bypass the laptop as a middleman. Unfortunately, you still lose some max speed since wifi isn't as fast as a wired connection. But... unless you can tether the Android directly to the desktop through a bus that is fast (like USB 3.0), you might as well just "reverse tether" with your laptop.

Not sure about other makes, but you can deffinitely do it on htc's. Does seem like an aweful lot of hassel though...

What type of internet connection do you have on your pc? Is your PC connected to a modem?

I mean if I'm reading this right, all you need is a cheapo wireless router to connect your laptop. You can get one for $30 at a brick & mortar store, or even cheaper online.

Maybe I'm wrong but the steps you're trying to attempt seem unnecessary.
