Internet Speed Test

So I was very happy to show off my Hero to my friend who just got his pre. Anyway he was on this website to check his internet speed on his pre and so I wanted to check mine.

I was averaging ~500kbps and I hit 1000kbps once. But my friend, he was averaging 8.5MBps, yes MBps.

Obviously same network, at the same time. What up wit dat?

We also tried to go to websites we had never been to at the same time and he was beating me pretty handly.

Anyway, I wanted to see what you guys were getting?

Site is mobilespeedtest.com, then it run test and post results!

Whoa, just did it right now and I got 1311kbps.
 
I have 1356KBps, at 100kb test...arent we supposed to have a fast 3G?
I tried same test, now I have 1789kbps...

8Mbps isnt possible. Not on EVDO Rev A. Peak is around 3Mbsp, average is about half that.

What were you using for a speed test?
 
Your friend either had WiFi on or the test data was cached, that speed is not possible on any current US 3G networks.

Edit: I can tell you his data was cached as I had the same results on my pre from that website.

This is sick speed. on HTC Hero....I am also in a building with major wifi bearly get phone service.... :)

note: thought this was little high....I ran again at 1300kbps then again at 700kbps...I will try again.. seems to me its not 100% accurate......I will try different test site. to see....
 
Tried out the 1MB test. I am averaging ~1MBps.

The first few times I did it I wasnt getting very good reception because I am in a brick and wooden building but once I got full bars I was getting the 1MBps.

Ive used the app Xtremelabs Speedtest (which keeps a nice history of tests at different locations) and Speedtest.net.

Both seem to do a fairly good job. My fastest Xtremelabs test shows 1562Kbps down, up was a disappointing 54.7Kbsp.

ok. the PRO2 is on the left and the Hero on the right.

i just typed in the URL in the browsers (PIE on the PRO2, standard browser on the hero). i did the test once.

im in a full signal area. i mean FULL... (downtown atlanta)

the PRO2 is definitely REV a and here the PRO 2 is a little behind the hero.

100KB is a very poor test size, you should try larger tests.
 
I've been averaging about 1.5 Mb via EVDO and 2.5Mb via WiFi. Is that reasonable? I would think WiFi should be significantly faster.
 
give me a preferred link to a better test site in your opinion and ill test it with both phones..

my main idea here is to prove the hero is on REV a and not REV 0. so you give me a link you respect and ill post the results... :D

I'm getting between 600-1200kbps over rev A.

Only about 2.5mbps average over wifi, while my laptop gets a handy 12mbps on the same test.

It seems to me that the wifi is significantly slower than it could be.
 
I have both a palm pre and a hero and by running the speed test on both phones at the same time from the same location my palm pre is always 2x's faster than my hero.

I know they are saying we are on rev o and its just a mis type of rev a showing on our hero's. But i dont believe it. The difference in data speed between these 2 phones is too different to dismiss.

The pre would get 2.5-3 mbs speeds. The hero sitting right next to it is getting 700-1100 kbs speed. I should post a you tube video and show everyone.

There is something to this. I think our phones have been chipped incorrectly and sprint doesnt want to deal with it.
 
I've been playing with 'Xtremelabs Speedtest' from the market - a lot nicer than the browser-based tests, less browser / javascript / latency dependent, and seems to work pretty reliably.
 
I got about 800Kbps with the 1MB test.

For comparison, I got 255Kbps with my campus internet on my laptop. Gotta love how I'm in god damn Silicon Valley and my internet connection here is slower than my phone's :P
