Introducing MessageNow - Free Android-iPhone-iTouch Messaging

can you please answer my question that I asked twice?

My apologies. We have implemented our own custom fetching mechanism (not true push). For the next update, we have designed a significant improvement that will ensure even less battery life is consumed.

Can you explain?

When you are not in the app, the device currently checks our servers for new messages approximately every minute. The next update will make this check much more lightweight, which should significantly help to conserve the battery life. Please contact me at "jon at enflick dot com" if you have more questions regarding this topic.

I was just wondering, if you can change your username. and is there a way to set it to check for notifications each X amount of time?

Currently you can't change your username. However if you really want to, shoot me an email at "jon at enflick dot com" and I will help you out. Also, there is currently no way to control the checking frequency but it is definitely something we can consider implementing for upcoming updates.

Thanks for the fast response, I'd definitely like the notification delay time feature to be implemented, and a blackberry and palm integration.

Thanks, this app is very worth the download.

Please, follow me @androidedd, as I will follow you, and hit me up with the update as soon as possible.

I guess I don't understand this application at all. I'm given two options, "compose" and "buddies". Clicking on compose just pops-up the word "compose" which can't be clicked or interacted with. Clicking on "buddies" asks me to add a buddy, so I type in what? A person's name? I tried typing in "Dad" because my contact list has my father listed as Dad. When I did this, it seemed to add a new buddy named "Eduardo (Dad) pending" My father's name is not Eduardo.

I'm confused both by the lack of instruction on how to even set up the service and I'm not all that certain what the point of it is if it were set up. I can instant message all my contacts much easier by simple clicking on my "People" icon.

When you are adding a buddy, you have to enter the username of someone who also has MessageNow (either the Android or iPhone/iTouch client). The reason when you push Compose it is blank is that you do not have any confirmed buddies yet.

We do realize some instructions within the application would have helped, so we will be sure to include them in the next version.

Ahh, I see! I had assumed that my buddies could simply be people from my contact list. I will spread the word and have others download it as well. Thank you.

Once you select a username, that username is tied to your device, so no-one else can select it.

So - when I change from my (work supplied) HTC Magic to the Hero I intend to get in Feb for my personal upgrade, can I change the device that my user name is tied to?

If by that time there won't be a way for you to do it through the app, we will be able to help you make the switch to a new device manually on our side.

It would be totally awesome if they updated it soon, with new features like interval to check, and other great features.

I've never understood the big deal with BBM. It's like a club thing, I guess. We should have a DM...droid only. So like, ONLY if you have a droid, we can be cool too and elitest :P.

Everyone I know has an iPhone pretty much, and now I'm converting people to droid. I don't see what's wrong with me just using my unlimited texting plan :P.

We do in a sense :)

With Google talk you can only add other Google Talk accounts {Not MSN , Yahoo or anything else}. So this Gtalk is our type and people have it on their android similar to the BBM

I just downloaded it... I like the concept. I kinda miss BBM so I will be very excited when you find a way to implement this into your program. @W4LLY I'm the same way - converting people to droid and using the unlimited text plan... however, I noticed that when I left my berry a lot of people were pissed because they were so use to the BBM... haha go figure! It is nice to feel special though... and have a 'members only' sorta chat feature.

Google should make something called ANDROID MESSENGER. Just for androids. MessageNow could be used for multi-platform compatibility. But I'd like to see an android only messenger, excluding gtalk.

Oh, right, G-talk. Forgot, lol.

The problem is my g-mail isn't my main e-mail. So all the contacts i get on their I wouldn't actually talk to :P

Is this program working smoothly for ANYONE?

Great idea, but I get no consistency at all...

FC

I've plugged this to a couple of people (one uses iPhone, the other an iTouch), and had no trouble with it. I've only used it a handful of times, but most of the time the conversation was able to move quite quickly, with very little upload/download time for each message sent/rec'd. If I knew more people with Android/iPhone Operating Systems, I'd probably be getting more mileage out of it as I don't have an unlimited texting plan.
