Invalid mmi code

I have a Vodacom sim card in my Android but i cannot perform the normal queries as with a phone when checking balances or trying to load air time etc. for eg if i key in *100# which is what is used to check airtime balances i get a pop-up screen saying invalid mmi code. this is same for any of the vodacom codes i key in. is there a setting to be done or something. please help

Did this happen recently? As in, the codes worked before, but now, for some reason, they don't?
Is there a service that you need to be subscribed to, to use those codes?
Is this a new sim card that may be corrupt?
What device do you have?
