iPad 2 or Win7 laptop?

I've never really liked Apple products. I've found to be too flashy and themed to actually be producitve. But, I have to admit that the music editing on them is terrific.

I'm currently stuck deciding whether I get an iPad 2 or a new Windows 7 laptop. One the one hand, the iPad 2 is new and flashy etc but Windows is so much easier to use (i my opinoin). Could anybody heer familiar with the iPad and Windows 7 help me out in deciding?

What are you planning to do with the device?

When you say gaming, do you mean Counterstrike or Angry Birds? Also, what work are you looking to do on it? It may well be beneficial to have a keyboard if you need to type for extended periods of time.
 
Get the laptop. Really I can do so much more on my 400 buck notebook then on any pad. They aren't pc replacements yet, not hating just think if you have to have one or the other the pc is the better choice.
 
Well I guess it's decided then. A laptop it is. Hopefully we will start to see some Android laptops in the future.

The only thing missing from Android for now is proxy settings. I think if the Zoom had the ability to use proxy's, I'd probably get it.

I have both. I find both have their advantages and disadvantages. My new laptop is great for writing, but I am finding my iPad to be just as good. But "just as good" depends on what it is you require.

I find a need to create graphics and rather complex technical documents and the iPad is not up to the challenge in every case, so I use my laptop. That said, I just finished editing a complex document that will be used in a factory that produced consumer electronics and the iPad was perfect.

Yesterday I finished a project for Polaroid. The draft was written, edited, rewritten, and changed all on my iPad.

Your query really can't be answered until we/I know what you intend to do.

This afternoon, I was running Microsoft office 2010 on my iPad. No loss of features and the Word GUI is exactly like the version installed on my laptop. But the laptop is easier to use in this case.

Get the laptop. You still need a real computer of some sort to support an iPad anyway, e.g. to get content on or off the thing, like documents, music and movies.
 
I'd go for the laptop as well, you can get a more powerful and functional device for less money, that's why I don't care for either iOS or Android tablets, they're too expensive for the functionality you get from them, but I have to admit using the Galaxy Tab and the iPad where really fun :)
 
I would say the iPad 2. I have both a Win7 laptop and the iPad 2 and with the cases that also come with a bluetooth keyboard you can use the iPad in the same way you would use the laptop. If your are wanting to play graphics intensive games then you would spend more than the cost of the iPad in buying the laptop but if you just want to play simple games then the iPad would have a great selection to choose from in the app store.

The same can be said for any piece of tech, and it happens much less with Apple than with Android or PC's, but buyers remorse is stupid, your device works, it does the basic things you want, anything else is just icing on the cake, still a faster processor wouldnt hurt :L
 
Laptop all the way...or at least until tablets have a dvd rom in them. But they don't. Besides..here is a great website I've found that any gamer will find at least one game they have fallen in love with at some point in time. Games catalogue - GOG.com
You can't put one of these games on a tablet..

Another thing to consider (at least it's big deal to me) you mentioned web browsing..so- why do you want something that can't use flash? (Ipad?)...it's a pretty big part of web browsing IMO.
 
Like most everyone else said, I would go with a laptop. Windows 7 is a great improvement over previous Microsoft operating systems (especially Vista!).
 
Laptop wins for versatility every time (put Windows or Linux or both on), speed, larger screen, upgradeable (to SSD and/or RAM). Also, for the price of a iPad2 you can get a really decent laptop. I'd go for a 11.6" netbook with a SSD and be done with it.

To me the iPad/Playbook/Tablet is too in-between in physical size. if I want real portablity, I have my phone. If I want to do work and need portability a laptop is much more powerful.
 
Are you going to be consuming or producing with this product? If consuming, I must say, the iPad is great. Fun games, great audio/video playback, great web-surfing. I wouldn't think of doing a research paper or getting any real work done on it though.
 
Not so sure about that. I can use my phone to get the majority of the research that IA need done for writing a paper, and now, with bookmark synchronization, Google Docs, and a few other apps here and there, including web access to Mendeley and EasyBib, I can easily see me doing most of hte work on my phone. Thus, I can se how a tablet could be just as easy to use.

If I could get sheer raw power in a very nice, ultra-thin laptop that had a touchscreen interface, I'd go with that. Barring that, a tablet (non iPad, sorry, not an Android fanboi so much as an Apple h8r) would go very nicely - particularly one that allowed me to use my documents, including templates and forms, as I wanted to.
