Hi Covart.
Thanks for the reply, and I downloaded the program and began to install it on the PC, but decided not to go through with it because it appeared to me that it would attempt to flash my new phone (I may be wrong about that) and that' something I don't want to do... at least not at this time.
Hi
Lembasts.
Thank you for introducing me to Kies. I went to the Samsung website and looked for Kies after I began/aborted the Root program. I installed Kies but the USB continues to do nothing but charge the phone. I clicked the connection diagnostics within Kies and it ran through its sequence and reinstalled the drivers. Still, nothing connects what so ever except charging.
But I'd like to thank you for the introduction to Kies, I found the Air version on my phone and (thankfully) this worked to connect via wifi and I am FINALLY able to install some media in my new phone.
I can live with the slow web transfers... I guess, but it does bug me my USB is only good for charging the phone and nothing else. I'm not sure if it's something wrong with the phone, or cable, or PC drivers. I found a few people through a google search who've had the same exact issues.
This is what I've done to try and resolve the USB issue:
1. Connect simply as the Samsung video shows. Plug it in and it's just supposed to connect. NOT!
2. Turn on the USB developer debugging.
3. Reboot the phone.
6. Hard reset the phone, erasing everything on it.
7. Find the appropriate Windows drivers at the Samsung website and install them.
8. Reboot the PC.
9. Tried connecting on another Windows 7 computer.
10. Began the root program install, but clicked to cancel before committing to actually starting the install. (Nothing was installed from the Root program)
11. Successfully connected and transferred files with Kies Air.
12. Downloaded and installed Kies from Samsung.
13. Ran the Kies connection diagnostic program.
14. I tried connecting with three different older model computers. An Acer Netbook running XP SP3, and two computers about 4 years old with Vista OS.
That's a total of 5 computers I've tried connecting with, using the new supplied USB cord which came with it. I don't have another mini USB cord to try.
If I knew this unit was broken I'd return it for exchange tomorrow morning. But reading about other people's problems connecting with PC's I am not so sure. I wouldn't want to waste even more time with this- to only get another one that doesn't connect if some of these S3's have an inherent USB connection issue.
