iPhone -> HTC One X

Btw, you guys are aware that we might have been among the last human beings in the US to snatch a One X?

HTC One X and Evo 4G LTE indefinitely delayed at US Customs for investigation of Apple patent infringement | The Verge

No.

This is all over the software patent that ties data in a stream to apps. This was a long time feature in Sense that HTC was required to remove.

Yep, they removed it long ago.

Truth is, Rezound buyers were worried about this hitting them around the turn of the year when the decision went down.

HTC had until April 19th to comply and according to accounts pushing this story, this is the first major shipment since that date.

As others have been entering the country before this, this could have been checked by Apple at any time, and no doubt was.

So this is just another Apple predatory practice.

The HTC stock drop and scare that hit their record growth last year in November was tied directly to this same case.

Apple is after all Android, but certainly the company that built the first one, HTC.

And yes, the horse named "this feature was done before Apple patented it" was beaten to death last year without success.

The patent system got broken terribly during dot com days legislation.

You live in a country where a recent patent was granted for making toast - "the bread freshening method." Look it up if you don't believe me.

Nothing here was invented by Apple. Nothing.

The delay is up to the court and customs. Expect it to take maybe ten days.

I have a new question! How can I sync email drafts between my Gmail client on the phone and my Email client on my laptop? The default setup unfortunately is such that the Draft folder on the laptop (a Mac, using standard OS X Mail) is not visible on the phone. I.e., if I'm writing an email on my laptop and want to edit and/or send it while on the go on the phone, I can't because the email is not accessible from there. On the other hand, draft created on the phone are visible on the Mac in a separate Drafts folder under the "Gmail" tab.

So I guess my question is: How can I consolidate those two separate draft folders?

And another one: How can I find out if there are updates (from HTC as well as developers of various apps) and how do I download them?

For software updates to the phone, head to Settings -> About and there should be a section for Software updates.

For app updates, you'll need to head to the Play Store, hit the menu button, then My Apps. That will list all your installed apps and tell you whether or not you have any updates to install.

Whilst in Play, if you hit Menu -> Settings, you can choose to be notified of updates or download them automatically.

Hi Again, two more questions:

-- what do people use to get visual voice mail

-- what to use to get SMS get messages for free? The fact that the only AT&T plan is a $30 unlimited familial plan is outright ridiculous and begs for an alternative.

As always, thank you!

I have another, sort of off-topic (as general, not iPhone related) question: What do people think about the HTC dock for the phone? I like the idea of being able to charge without plugging in, but don't know the value of being able to sync when everything is synced wirelessly by default.

Try.. Google voice

Try.. Google voice

I downloaded Google Voice but it seems dysfunctional. There is neither a dial pad nor a visual voice mail indicator nor an SMS feature. Voice mails still go to the stupid AT&T voice box. Any suggestions what could be wrong? The settings don't seem to offer many useful options.

I have two more questions, should go back to enumerating them for clarity...

-- I'm getting a persistent data usage warning that can't be cleared. I'm on an unlimited AT&T data plan and have only used about 1.5 GB so far. What can I do about this crap?

-- I can't connect to the bluetooth in my car and vice versa. Could this be a problem with the phone, software, or cars bluetooth (it works well with other phones like iPhones).

Try going to Settings, then More (under the list of wireless switches), Usage, and then un-check the "Set data usage limit"

Can you specify whether you cannot pair it at all in the first place, or if it won't connect after the two have been paired? You might have to look into the settings for that car bluetooth kit under Bluetooth > then click the settings logo next to the car bluetooth (the logo with the 3 vertical bars and buttons on them), and check that both phone and media audio are checked. That's all I can think of...

"Set data usage limit" was un-checked in the first place, so this does not explain the issue unfortunately.

On the bluetooth, I hadn't been able to pair in the first place, but just tried again for the third time and it worked after a little while (about 20 seconds), though only if I set both devices to search for each other. Strange.

What is still not working is that voice navigation goes to the car stereo, which is a bummer since this is the most important use for me.

For the usage warning, you can move when you are warned about usage as well as setting a usage limit. you just need to move the green slider on the right on your data usage graph to a level you won't hit if you have unlimited usage.

I personally have mine set to the highest data usage I have ever got and use it kind of like a high score ;)

Currently on 6.5GB for my usage warning. (Screw being stuck on a 500/750mb plan like some of my mates are..)

I think you can use Google voice for free sms, take a look at the settings for that.
Also probably no dial because hou need to set it up to make all or certain calls, and I assume it would then use the phone dial.
Not sure what you mean by visual voice mail, but yeah, voicemails were better handle. On iphone.

there is no dial pad.. it will intercept all SMS and voice messages for you.

you need to go through the setup. first on the website from your computer.. then on your phone. search "google voice"

Bluetooth kept asking me to pair device each time I got into the car.
It then magically worked I believe after he latest update 1.29.401.7

I also cleared all phone memory on the car kit before successfully pairing the device.

Hi,

I have just upgraded from iPhone 4 to HTC one X.
While I am exploring the Phone, I have one major problem. Whatsapp which I use a lot. I tried installing in on HTC one x and it installs properly..detects msg sent/received but its come to profile page..and when I update my name it just shows up that unable to connect and not going forward from there.
I am seeing notifications of msg being sent to me on whatsapp, but not able to open them as whatsapp still on the profile screen and not going forward.

I have tried following:
- uninstall install
- uninstall restart install
- login to old device delete account then reinstall on HTC

nothing has worked. can anyone helo?
