Help iPhone numbers not syncing *sigh*

MagicIain

Lurker
I'm the proud owner of a new Samsung Galaxy Note. Wowsers. It's brilliant. And massive. Massively brilliant.

Unlike my iPhone 3GS.

I'm having problems transferring the contacts to my Note from the iPhone. I've tried using iTunes to sync with Outlook, Windows Address Book and Google Contacts, but the only contacts that sync are the ones with email addresses.

That's 11 contacts out of my whole iPhone contacts list.

With no option to bluetooth each contact individually from the iPhone, how can I transfer the phone numbers to (preferably) Google Contacts to then sync with my Note?

I've got a feeling I'm going to have to add each phone number manually to my Google Contacts list...

I'm not familiar with iTunes or the iPhone, but there should be a way to export the contacts to a .csv file. You could then import that into gmail, which would then sync to your note.

Chris, thank you.

However, I have done exactly this and the result is what I have the problem with.

Not all of my contacts sync - only 11 of them! Specifically, the ones with email addresses. It's like the syncing process doesn't select any other field to transfer from my iPhone.

a lot of us will be having this issue in the next couple days when our pre-orders arrive on our door.

in anticipation, i began these steps: How to Set Up Google Sync for iPhone

so you tried that already Iain?

if you have, then i for one would love to know if and how you get it to eventually take your contacts.

tx in advance, plz keep us posted! :)

Sorry:o, I didn't see the step in there about it only exporting google contacts. Try this tutorial as it is meant to backup all of your iPhone contacts to a CSV file. Ignore the download buttons at the top of the page though, the tutorial is below it.

Export iPhone Contacts as CSV File | Save iPhone Contacts | iPhone

Chris, as i said in my original post, I have already done this. My problem is not how to sync, it's the fact that when i sync, the process only syncs my email addresses and not the phone numbers

OK, I'm done with my facepalm:o and I'm sorry I didn't read more carefully.

So you have your csv file exported from iTunes and when you import it into Gmail you only get 11 of them.

When you open the CSV, are there only the 11 contacts in there or are all of them in there (you should be able to open it in Excel or any spreadsheet application)?

It could be a field mapping issue as well. I'll hunt around some more for you.

Hi, I downloadwd an app from iTunes which syncs all your iPhone contacts to Gmail, it works perfect, I just got my note on Monday, downloaded this app from itunes, synced my iphone cotacts with it and when I set up my Note all my contacts were there, it did cost me $2.99au but it was well worth it and hassle free

hmm nowthing came up in my itunes when i searched "gmail sync"

iPhone app store search for "gmail sync" shows 1st thing an app called Contacts for Sync priced at $2.99 - is that it?

if not can you give us a link and exact name and more info?

tx.

Thanks for all these replies, people!

I eventually bit the bullet and typed out all my contacts into my Gmail contacts list manually. It didn't take as long as I thought it would and from now on at least I know where they all are...

As for my problem - I think it might have had something to do with me putting spaces between digits in the phone numbers on my iPhone. I've always typed them like this: 07xxx xxx xxx with those two spaces and I wonder if that meant all the contact-syncing software I was using didn't recognise any of the numbers as phone numbers because of the spaces?

I'm glad your all set. I would have gladly taken a look at your csv file and probably could have easily fixed it, but felt it would have been inappropriate to ask (I know I wouldn't email mine to someone I don't know;)). Feel free to ask again if you need any help getting used to your new phone.
