Irony...

To paraphrase William Shatner, it can be pretty ironic sometimes.

With my continuing relationship struggles, I was ruminating on an old Carole King song (as though there are any new ones!!), "It's Too Late." So I plugged it in to You Tube music and it played that and started down a Pandora-like path that had me remembering much easier, happier times. (Otis Redding is playing now.)

For all the great things about it, there's a certain irony in that technology can make one sometimes long for the time before it really took off--and sharing such thoughts would be impossible. Weird...

Funny, for me music certainly is a time machine of sorts, but smells? They really take me back. If I smell something that is date or place specific, BOOM I am there, maybe only for a moment, but I swear it is a full body experience.

A couple that jump to mind, the day I took my son to his first day of elementary school (same district as mine as a child but different school) the smell of the school, was a strong deja vu to my first day of class, opening my tackle box takes me back to fishing with grandpa (every time), the smell of an old 60's hot rod the subtle mix of gas, oil, old wires and cheap vinyl, takes me back to 14 when I first sat in a GTO. It's the most amazing feeling.

My remembered smells are stinky. Cigarettes, Whiskey...

Part of my life that I still represent. Nothing Like the OGs smoking in the kitchen though. I used to stand under the cloud.
