Is 2.0 gonna make the phone less laggy?

What Quick Contact widget is everyone talking about? I looked at all my widgets and didn't find anything like that.

Only thing I found was the People widget, which is just a shortcut to the list of contacts in my phone.

I don't see how a shortcut can slow down the phone though.

I'm pretty sure what they are all talking about is the people widget.

Hrmm, I don't see how a widget that doesn't do anything until you click it can affect the phone's performance.

Thanks for the avatar note :) I made it about 10 years ago when SC came out and stuck with it ever since. SC2 ftw, right?

I just spent about 4 hours writing a post ripping the Hero a new one, which I will post in the morning. Look for it on my blog at 9:30am (see signature). I am hoping to bring HTC's attention to it and get us all moving closer to a better, faster Hero.

I am considering posting the positive side to the story too - the ways the Hero shines (ignoring the bugs). I actually jotted all of that down throughout my first week of use but never got around to posting, as the bugs started to aggravate me more and more.
 
as with any smart phone ever i've encountered a couple minor inconveniences here and there but this phone is light years ahead of anything else i've used. i had a pre, and it was balls. good look finding something better. ps, i know u can buy an iphone, but u wont get the same level of service as i do for what i pay each month.
 
I dont mean to belittle any of your problems.....I know they are real, but I just have to say that I dont experience "lag" anywhere throughout the OS or apps (yes I'm being honest). I have 25 apps from the market, 110mb memory left, widgets for stocks, calander, bookmarks, music, battery life, tv, nfl, the flip clock/weather combo, and yes...the HTC people widget(the small one) running. The only lag I have ever had was while typing...turned off haptic feedback, turned on sound feedback and now no lag there either. I am very happy with the Hero, just not with Sprints glacial pace of releasing HTCs update (the SMS fix is what I'm after so I can go back to the HTC messaging app).
 
You might want to swap your Hero for a new one. I just got a replacement (due to missing sms issues) and my new one is way faster. The switch from Vert. to Horiz. now takes about 1 second whereas my old one seemed to take about 3 agonizing seconds ;-)
There is no noticeable lag anywhere else in this new phone, aside from time to time when scrolling in the browser.

Did you do a backup/restore or the new phone is still pretty empty? Did you set up all the email accounts, fb sync, etc? I want to make sure we're comparing apples to apples here.

Was the other phone laggy out of the box?
 
I set up this one the same as the previous one. It's faster for sure. Others have reported the same with later phones.

how do you do a backup? i need to backup and reset. i have some bugs.
