Is an cellular tablet worth it?

I have a S3 with 1GB of data a month. I use maybe 500 a month. I picked up a Note 8 yesterday but haven't taken it out of the box yet. I want to use the tablet at work for taking notes at meetings or whatever. I can't use work's corporate wifi. So I'll have to rely on my S3 and a mobile hotspot. But that may kill my data, and my phone battery. Plus will it be cumbersome to have to enable the mobile hotpot every time etc etc. A 3G tablet would solve it but its more expensive and the Note 8 is not available in Canada with cellular.

What have others done in a similar situation?
