Is android market boring you to tears?

The appstore has everything already:

- Microsoft Office? Check (Documents to Go)
- Shazam? Check
- Pandora? Check
- EMULATORS? Check
- Study Flashcards? Check
- Voice Recorder? Check
- File Manager? Check
- Task killer? Check
- LED flashligh? Check
- Password keeper? Check
- FLASH? Check
- Google Voice? Check
- Book reader? Check
- Barcode scanner? Check

What else do you really need?

The only thing that Android "lacks" compared to iTunes are those crappy mobile games (i.e. Gameloft) that are outclassed by real classic games using a wiimote and emulator...

Good discussion, I have moved this thread to the Lounge Forum as it deals with Android in general and not just the Nexus One. So this way, more people can comment :)

I use appbrain to search for new apps and most of the apps I download are recommended by AF members or are from Android App review blogs. I don't really bother with the Market unless it's to install or update my apps. I do agree with everyone that it needs a better filtering and sorting system. But the Market is NOT an issue that will drive me away from Android.

I sort of agree about the app Market thing. At first your like "Oh this is pretty cool! All these apps, you could never get bored of installing them!". Unfortunately, after about a month, it sort of "cool" factor wore off. If I read about a cool app online, I'll go check it out. But I don't browse for apps regularly.

And Android isn't alone in this regard. Same thing happened with my iPod Touch about a year ago. App Store was cool for awhile, but then I grew bored of it and only used it as a media player with some games in between. It doesn't help that the natural limitation of having to rely on wifi for internet, only half the apps were useful without internet access. Then I got my Nokia E63 (my first real smartphone) and it was cool looking all over the internet for apps and such. But then it started grow tedious, and boring, since there are many crap apps for Symbian as well, plus, in some cases, you have to go to the trouble of signing apps before installing them. What a PITA. And I didn't even have mobile internet yet either, so once again, many apps were useless without wifi.

What I'm saying is, the "cool" factor of having tons of apps on any OS starts wearing thin, after you have it for awhile. Sure, you might see a new app and say, "That looks neat, I'll try it out". But you don't really spend too much time looking for apps unless you are specifically looking for something.

At least that's how it is for me anyway.

And Women are still attractive.

It doesn't mean they make good apps.

However, "farts" being funny is a point of view.. is it natural? yes
Is it something everyone does? yes.
Do I want apps so I can make stupid noises? no

I don't think they are funny and I'm sure even people who do will get bored of them after 5 minutes and go on to the next stupid app.

Well, I suppose in a way I agree with you. With the Iphone's waning popularity -it will happen sooner or later, thanks all the bad factors surrounding it - the Android market will rise even higher. But, all fads die at some point.

I would advocate a rating system similar to the one employed by Netfilx, wherein you rate apps you've used (or intentionally ignored) and are then be presented with a list of app recommendations based on your ratings.

It's rather a shame that app stores are compared on "number of apps" -- it would be very interesting to see a comparison on "number of stars"! This, of course, assumes that the rating system of the iPhone app store (and others?) is in some way compatible (1-5 stars).

Just an idea that struck me the other day.
