Is Android Mobile getting Spell Check like Tablet??

I have an LG Spectrum running Android 2.3.6 and Firmware VS902ZV6. It has no spell check within the OS for apps like Gmail, which has no spell check, or anything else that doesn't have an onboard spell check function. Only Maildroid has a spell check that I can find for email. This is just insane to me coming over form a Blackberry that Google can let this go this long. I have an Acer Tablet that has an onboard spell check, meaning as I type in any application it highlights the misspellings with a red underline and then allows for correcting. Is this ever going to come to Android mobile phones? It is just ridiculous that it isn't here. And save me the recommendations to download an app that I would have to type in, then spell check, then copy and paste the information into another app that doesn't have spell check. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. What is Googles problem?

Adding a function like that would likely require an OS update, the next step would likely be ICS, IF your phone is scheduled to get it. ICS is a convergence of the phone and tablet versions of the OS.

Some of the spellcheck issues are usually solved with a different keyboard. I've been settled in to SwiftKey X for a while now and it has gotten very good at predicting text. That's not to say it's 100% perfect but it generally does a good job. I've also read that the latest version of Swype has improved word prediction but I haven't tried it. These keyboards do take a little while to really start more accurate predictions but, depending on how much you use the keyboard, the time can vary.

Quickoffice also recently introduced spellcheck in its office app. I tried it and I don't think it was very good.

I'm running an ICS ROM right now and there is spellcheck integrated. It's just as you described. The misspelled word is underlined in red but first you have to tap on the underlined word for a popup with selections to appear. It also has the option to add the underlined word to the dictionary. I rarely use it though because SwiftKey X pretty much handles it.

I just use the stock keyboard for spelling corrections, if the app doesn't already have it. Works great for me. Atrix 4G running GB.
