Help is downloading Play Store by a link ok?

i got the google play store by downloading a apk from the phandroid website. is this ok , or will i be better off trying to get the old market updated - or is there no difference.
i find that others have a play store , not shop , and that the featured apps hardly ever change

How would I go bout getting the old old market updated?

Also, this with the play store update : ate you running sense 3.0?
