Is firmware update permanent?

Stupified

Lurker
I recently plugged my samsung pocket into my pc and let Kies do a firmware update. Didn't succeed on the first try but 2nd try it worked.

Now what I am wondering, is if I go into recovery mode and do a factory reset on my phone, will that also revert it back to the original firmware? or will the firmware update remain?

A factory reset will wipe all user data on the phone, but will not revert back to a previous version of Android, so you would be able to do a factory reset, safe in the knowledge that you would still have the latest firmware :)

Ah but it seems like my phone was faster BEFORE I updated the firmware.
:(
So no way to get it back other than searching online for an old firmware and flashing manually?

Oh well. Thank you for your reply.

To go back to earlier firmware, you would most likely have to root your phone (which would void any warranty)... can look in to it, if you want :)

So after the firmware update, there is no way to ever go back to the original set up of the phone? Exactly like it was when i bought it?

Thinking about it, I am a little confused by your post here...
you said it will not revert to a previous version of Android so I would be safe in my knowledge that the firmware will not change.
That implies that the Android version and firmware are the same thing or at least related?

But isn't Android and the Samsung firmware on my phone two completely different things and even stored in two different memory chips?

Sorry, I'm a little confused now.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you!

Samsung will have put their own User Interface/Overlay on top of Android. They would release updates that would correct any issues, but it would still be the same version of Android.

A factory reset would only delete user data, but would not affect any updates your phone has had :)
