Is it a test?

Can we please get something back? Even an interim ranking system would be better than nothing.

Look at how Kubuntu Forums does it:

I've intentionally cut off the usernames, leaving just enough to show different colors for different member types, e.g., red for administrator. I tried to get a good sampling of how a member's info might appear in the sidebar.

Please, something?

I've been meaning to ask you..I can't see the rank numbers of the members any more..it started happening happening about two or three days ago..

Well it seems like your testing isn't working out..so let's go back to normal
It was removed on purpose, @Rob is exploring options on what to add back and such. Please be patient as they try to weigh what is best for the site, and the members, and weigh that against what we are used to. As always, honest feedback is always welcome, so keep it coming!

Rank did seem useful, wouldn't mind seeing that back.

Exactly.

If my opinion counts for anything, please @Rob, put ranks back, at least until something else takes their place.

I see a distinct change in tone from new people interacting with established, known-to-be-knowledgeable members who've replied to their questions. Kind of like 'who the f--- are YOU, anyway?!' [In tone, not actual wording.]

As I said earlier, I've pondered why rank was removed*. I feel pretty sure of the reason. That's why I suggested showing only the top X. X could be 50, 75, 100, whatever best represents members who are at least:

- longtime
- proven helpful/knowledgeable
- active

I strongly dislike the lack of SOMETHING that gives new people an idea of who they're talking to.

*Staff, PM me if you're interested in hearing my assumption. I don't intend to say it publicly. :)

Feel free to head over to private chat area if you want to discuss further!

Is the removal of the little site icons [to the left of a URL in a post] going to be permanent?

It took me awhile to get used to them. I finally did--and actually grew to like them, because I could tell at a glance which [familiar to me] site the link was for--and now they're gone!

Again, I'm only referring to accessing the site with a browser on my phone. I haven't looked and, therefore, don't know if this applies to other access methods as well.

I don't see reason why you ask her to talk in private..we all are here interested in the same issue..what ever is said is our business too..there's nothing "private" to talk about this matter..so what ever needs to be said then say it in here..and yes the rank system motivates every single forum member to do better and even better every day..so YES it's our matter too!!!

Just fix that already..you might be the administrator..but this this our forum too.

Simple as that.

With all due respect to your opinion, I disagree. :)

There are many behind-the-scenes activities and discussions that only staff should be privy to. As former staff, I understand and respect that.

I felt that my theory about removing rankings may be something better not said publicly, so I gladly took the suggestion to discuss it privately. We've had a lively, thoughtful, informative discussion--which I won't share unless @Rob says it's okay.

See Moody's post where she asks to have staff PM her, which is why i responded and pointed them to the Private chat area. There is no conspiracy here. And while yes I am *A* admin, @Rob is the owner, and the boss. I too am just giving my opinion. Moody wanted to have a private chat with staff, so she did, that is *her* prerogative.

And if *you* want to let staff and Rob (the decision maker) know in a priavte manner your own feedback, feel free, or please continue to post your thoughts here. Rob, and staff, appreciate users feedback.

There was nothing proprietary in that thread, so feel free to share what Rob told you here!

Wasn't sure if this needs its own thread, as I think it's related to the testing/tweaking/changing going on.

I've stumbled upon a glitch that appears to be happening in some inactive/not very active boards. Some examples:

Thanks for the info, @Rob.

I'm all for getting more traffic--I miss our crazy-busy days!--so I appreciate and understand trying changes that may help.

Yes...no. I can still get to it, but now I have to scroll past the list of related threads--it's the link for the board I'm on. For example, if I'm reading a thread in Android Help, after its last post there's a link for Android Help. That's how I navigate until I'm ready to leave a board, then I use my 'favorites' list. Note that I've only seen the new look on my phone (browser, not app).

From what little I've had a chance to see so far, it looked like some of them were really old. Just because a thread from 2010 has a word in common with a current post, doesn't mean it's relevant! If I, as a random visitor arriving from a search, clicked a 'related' post and found that its content was 10 years old, I'd roll my eyes, sigh, and leave in a huff. :)

Why not have a 'have you seen our other boards?' block, with links to some sub-forums, or to a comprehensive listing of all the boards? That could be more relevant/inviting than a post from 2013! :D

Yea, I inadvertently aswered a thread posted over a year ago links at the bottom of a current thread. I didnt realize how old it was until after I had posted. I initially thought it was current because it was linked to a current tread. At least know I know its linked to the topic and not the age. :)

What's up with the format change? Is it a test? Will it go away? I looked through my settings but didn't see anything likely there.

I'm not crazy about the 'related posts' at the bottom of a thread; please make that a user setting if it's going to stick around.

And I noticed the absence of member ranks.

Thanks for starting this thread @MoodyBlues, its been very helpful and informative.

Fair, but nothing wrong with answering old threads. Maybe the OP's come back

Oh, puh-leeze! :o

Come on NA, some of those OPs were one-hit wonders--their only activity being that one post. And looking them up, you see they haven't even been back in NINE YEARS!

What are the odds that a drive-by poster will suddenly think, 'Gee! I really need to see the answer to my 10-year-old question about Froyo's settings!'

While I hear ya, the example was a 1 year old thread :(). And I believe @Rob said he put a time limit on those. You never know, and content is content IMO
