Is it me, or is the Vibrate incredibly loud when sitting on a wooden desk/table??

So when this thing is sitting on my desk or wooden bed-side table, the vibrate is incredibly loud - really actually annoyingly loud! This morning I got an email at 5 a.m. and it scared the hell out of me.

I assume this is due to the camera lens contacting the hard surface.

Obviously not a deal breaker, and i'm not complaining about the phone - but just thought i'd share that. Anyone else notice it?

LMAO, yes it is, matter of fact I have the lens sitting on a microfiber cloth on my desk and yes this thing vibs like its a mini quake

I had a blackberry 8703e before..and that vibrate was ridiculously loud.

So this is actually more bearable for me haha, and yeah iam at work right now, it is loud on a wooden desk.

Still nothing compared to my old blackberry

Even not on a hard surface the vibrate is a little too loud for my taste.

At work, I have a double-stack of post-it notes (they're like 3/4 inch thick each) that I'm used to setting my phone on (previously iPhone). I did this so when my phone went off, it wouldn't make a ton of noise. Even sitting on this paper stack, my Evo is really loud :S

Can anyone comment on the strength of the vibration in comparison with a HTC Hero? The Hero can be quite loud as well but actually feels very weak to unnoticeable when it's in my pocket. I have to have ringtones disabled for most of the day. I miss the old days where early cell phone or pager vibrations were startling and unmissable.

I had a Hero before I got the Evo and I really noticed the loudness of the Evo's vibration when on a table. I don't know if it's because the metal ring around the camera is the point of contact or if it is just that much stronger. I was never impressed with the Hero's vibrate function though since it always seemed pretty weak.

yea it'll get your attention for sure. I turned off the vibrate feature for alarms, where my phone would be sitting on a desk.

my coffee table has a glass top, when this thing goes off it sounds like a jackhammer is going to shatter the glass haha. I believe its just because the lens and a tiny bit of the bottom of the phone is touching the surface. With my old phone, it had a completely flat back, so that kind of spreads out the vibrating.

It's loud on the table, but as soon as you pick it up, the sound goes away.

When I get my case I hope it makes it less noisy.

The sound isn't from the vibrator, but rather from the back of the phone rattling on the hard surface.

Oh god yes! I got an email at 5 in the morning the other day and it woke me up from a dead sleep. I had to turn off the vibrate function for email notifications.

I purchased an Evo 4g back in September of 2011, i LOVED how quiet it was when it vibrated, unlike any other phone i owned. When that Evo gave out on me, sprint gave me a new one. Now this one vibrates so loud! wth could it be?

I have not paid attention to it..

But think of musical instruments made of wood.. To help resonate the sound.. Which is a vibration.

Wood must have a property that magnify the sound
