Is it possible to install Android into a device designed for another OS?

Stupid question but is it possible? At least on certain devices? I think someone on this board said he installed Android on his HTC HD2 which originally had Windows Mobile. I ask because I want Android but I'd like to expand my phone options to outside the Android territory.

What more is there to expand to? Android has about the widest handset territory there is...unless you want to put Android on an iPhone?

I know there are a lot of Android phones out there but my preferences - physical keyboard, GSM, and 3.4'' screen - narrow down my options a lot

It became relevant when you mentioned these Specs

Other devices with those specs:

HTC Desire Z

T-Mobile G2

Yes they are pretty much the same apart from the G2 is vanilla Android and the Desire Z has HTC Sense.

Sure (in some cases) but you'd need to find a guide to doing so for whatever specific device(s) you're considering unless you're the pioneering type.

The quick and dirty answer:

If you have to ask a question like this, it probably isn't for you. That is to say, unless there is a step by step guide by someone that has put the time in to get it working, I wouldn't waste my time.

If this is your major goal, you are probably going to put quite a few hours into researching this I think.
