Is it possible to make headphones with controls work?

I just got a pair of Skullcandy "Fix" headphones, and I really like them, but the physical controls don't seem to work on my Thunderbolt. I tried the Headset Button Controller trial, and it got the center button working, but it wouldn't respond to the volume up and down keys; also, when the phone is locked, instead of doing the function I assigned to it, pressing the center button would just put the volume all the way then gradually push it all the way up.

I uninstalled the app and tried another one, but that one didn't work at all. I uninstalled that new one, and redownloaded Headset Button Controller again (since it at least did something), but now, for some reason, Headset Button Controller doesn't work at all.

Any other tips? I really like these headphones, and I don't want to have to return them, but I really want headphones with controls that actually work with the phone, yanno?

The controls on all my cordless bluetooth headphones have worked great.

I also got a pair of headphones that the controls do not work on my thunderbolt. It doesn't make sense because the headphones icon with Mic pops up when i plug them in.

Make sure the headphones have 3 black rings around the jack itself, most 3 ring headphones work. If its 2 rings then they wont work properly.

For example, the blackberry curve headphones work great with the tbolt but some other phone headphones wont.

Just look at the plug and see if it has 3 rings around the chrome area..

Mine has the three rings, but they are a knock-off version of Apple's headphones, so that may be the deal. I will mess around with them n see whats going on.

Mine have the three rings, too, but don't work right...

Interestingly, when I had first plugged in the headphones, the icon in the notification bar was the headphones with a mic. But now when I plug them in, the icon is just a pair of headphones. Not sure why it changed...
