Root is it the phone or the battery thats faulty?

wifes desire, rooted using mildwild rom. sometimes the phone just dies reading 80%, sometimes it lasts quite well. not often tho.
i had a look at it, and when i picked it up (it was charging, btw) it showed 14% and was red. i uninstalled facebook to see if thats gonna help, put the phone down, but when i had a quick look at the screen, it was reading fully charged. this was about a minute after saying 14%.

obviously something wrong, and to me it seems like the batterys about had it. am i right?

ive ordered another one anyway, but is there anything i can test in the meantime?

Probably is a faulty battery. The battery guage actually measures voltage. A sudden change in voltage like that would indicate a battery our phone fault.
