Root Is it worth adding a custom 2.2 rom?

I have recently been undecidable of upgrading my orange san francisco to a custom 2.2 rom.

If possible please could some users say what are the advantages/disadvantages of upgrading the rom?

Also if it is worth it, and how hard it is to rom for unexpeirenced users.

P.s. What is the best 2.2 custom ROM out there?

It certainly is worth upgrading:

see this thread, where it is all thrashed out, with suggestions regarding which upgrade guide to use, which ROM to pick, etc, etc

Also, learn all about your phone, and what is possible, from the experts at modaco.....

.....and it can be done even by inexperienced wrinkly like me.

Going from Eclair(2.1) to Froyo(2.2) a bit like going from Windows 3.1 to Windows 7,and next up is 2.3 (Cyanogenmod nearly ready, now on RC4).

I would definitely root and upgrade to 2.2 if I were you. For starters, your phone will run ALOT quicker without all of the Orange bloatware on the phone. Secondly, 2.2 is much better than 2.1 just because you have the option of installing apps to your SD card rather than the phone's internal memory, thus allowing you to have more apps on your phone :)

Personally, I think that the Swedish Spring ROM is the best 2.2 I've tried (and I've tried most). I was running 2.3 via CyanogenMod ROM, however I changed back to 2.2 for now because the ROM seemed to cause some minor probs such as my power button not always working. Had to press it several times before it worked sometimes, but since I changed back to Swedish Spring ROM it's been fine again.
 
Thank you for all the replies, they have been very useful. Is the swedish spring ROM like the official 2.2, with 3D drawer and everything. I want a ROM that is good and is completly like the official 2.2 with 3D drawer and everything else. I have heard gooD things about FLB-FROYO, is this an even better upgrade? :) I just want the best ROM, and I may need some help upgrading. One other question, can you back up your current orange ROM and revert to it in the future? :) Also one with full functionality and the least errors/bugs

Hi BurnCK,

I am using the SS RLS2, and would like to upgrade also, although I am very happy with the ROM, and there are no real probs.

Just to see what the OSF/Blade is capable of, really, so was going to go to CM7.

However, taking what you say into account, and reading on Modaco about some probs which prevent CM7 from being used day-to-day, like the one you highlight, I know there have been RLS3 and RLS4 of SS, would you recommend upgrading to the latest SS ROM, and which one?

Is the Sweedish Spring ROM, and official ROM, I have been told it is but I would just like to see if it can be confirmed. :) Also anybody know what FLB-FROYO ROM is like, thanks

Yeah it's taken from an official 2.2 release by a Swedish network.
