Is Lookout getting clunky for anyone else?

I've used Lookout on all of my Android phones over the past few years and been very happy with it in terms of protection and extra features (backup, tracking, etc.). However, over the past couple months it seems like it has gotten extremely clunky and slow as it scans every new app that installs. During mass updates of more than 3-4 apps, my phone -- which is normally quite the performance beast -- essentially locks up for a couple of minutes. As often as not, I have to reboot it to shake it loose.

Is anyone else seeing this with Lookout? If anyone has suggestions on how to cut down what appears to be the increased resource demands from Lookout, or alternate security apps that provide solid protection and a lighter touch, I'd love to hear from you.

Well, apps/widgets in Android exhibit slowdowns over time most often due to resource baggage; that is, they have to sift through so much collected data that polling the cache takes longer, not to mention what services are involved having to wait in the queue for activation as that stacked up cache gets analysed by the program.

The remedy which works best is simply to go into the apps configuration menu, after backing up what you want to keep, and clear data and cache in there and start over. Most users don't want to start over, so clearing the cache only and not the data is all that need be done.

Once in a while we'll see that a newly installed program, such as a new weather app or social networking widget etc, will not play nice with existing stuff in the system, essentially robbing the old reliable program of functionality, and sometimes even slowing the whole device down.

Think about what you've installed recently, or reconfigured, etc. Perhaps you can make some changed in addition to the cache and data clearing.

My phone, too, was slowing down with updates. I immediately assumed it was Lookout's fault, so I froze it. It still did the same thing. Multiple app updates caused the phone to slow down, eventually freeze up, and it would reboot itself. I uninstalled Lookout, but it still happens. No idea what causes it. I use an app to clear the cache about 1-2x a week, but nothing kickstarts the phone like a reboot every so often. Could also be the 150 apps I have just not liking each other, but I am not about to go through each one to find out. I will just live with it.

Until I get a quad-core phone that can handle this, that is. ;-)

Frisco - I wiped the cache on all apps using TiBu, so we'll see if that makes a difference over the next few days.

If not, I'll try mahers' thing (though I assume I'll see much the same result) or maybe an alternative like Norton. It could be a conflict with one particular app, but since it slowly crept up on me I doubt I'll be able to go back and sort through which particular app that is.

I'll probably just deal with it until the JB update drops. I was planning to do a full wipe/clean install at that point, anyway. The last I heard it was supposed to be sometime this quarter, so hopefully soon...
