Is my Galaxy S5 battery normal?

Jakesb

Lurker
One of the reasons i got the Galaxy s5 was because of its "Better" battery life over the nexus 5 which i can say it is better..
However im not exactly impressed with going from %100 down to %95 with Airplane mode on and nothing but WIFI, It says 22m on battery and 15m on screen...

Is this normal for a Galaxy s5 battery life?

I use greenify to hibernate all my apps and Greenpower premium to turn wifi on and off.

Please tell me if this is normal thanks.

that is really too short of a time period to make a significant judgement call on.

You don't need either one of those apps in play, and if you have Lollipop, no app can turn off DATA.
WiFi, yes, but not DATA.... I leave DATA turned off manually all the time, MacroDroid turns WiFi off for me...
I never turn the internet ON unless it is needed, which isn't all that much for me. SMS gets 95% of my use, and telco calls get a good workout also. The phone gets more use as a camera for documentation, and as a Database/Calendar/NotePad kind of thing....

I'm not into social apps or games... I get about 2 days per charge as a rule... on days away from the house, about 16 hours down to about 40% because of using DATA for searches, etc.... using CoPilot to get me places

The wife's S5 runs about 12-14 days per charge cycle... but, about all hers is used for is a telephone... I keep DATA and WiFi turned off on it.... in fact, it is still on 4.4.4 because with the internet off, it will never get an update to Lollipop.

So i should not use greenify ?

Your guide says no task killers does this include greenify since it hibernates apps?

Greenify works much the same as an aspirin does for a broken leg... it may relieve the symptoms but it does not cure the problem.

Oh so you suggest i remove all the battery apps and just let android manage battery? But what about facebook messenger if greenify does not hibernate it that app drains so much battery?

As EarlyMon on here once stated... Facebook was designed by brain dead monkeys. It is the number one battery and performance drainer.

maybe I'm on the wrong page, but I just can't imagine "needing Facebook Messaging". SMS works great, does not consume any extra power.

FB is a horrible battery hog, and I keep it corralled up tight in a little box. It is not allowed access to any of the messaging features, nor is it allowed access to notifications... I keep the internet turn OFF at all times until I unlock my phone, then only the app I want to use has access to the internet.

If the OP feels they need it, then they need it lol
I have several people I communicate through messenger with whom I wouldn't give my phone number to.....
Now, back to the topic.

To get a real idea of your battery life, you need to monitor it for a few cycles.
Gsam battery monitor is a great tool to use.

Side note: Greenify is good for some apps just don't get carried away and try to Greenify everything. Apps like Facebook and Instagram are great candidates for Greenify. [emoji217]

Good point, hadn't thought about that one.... my list of SMS folks is about 10 at most.

Since im on Rooted android 5.0 is it worth a factory reset or upgrading to the latest android version and rooting again? Will this have any effect on my battery?

There are currently 40 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 5 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1 and Android 5.1.1. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and as you are rooted, are you running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

(TIP If you are a poster it is a good idea to mention your model number and firmware version in case this has a bearing on your problem.

Better still, if you have 25+ posts to your name, you can go to the black bar at the top of this forum and click on your
Username, which will show a drop down menu. Just select, "Signature", and you can enter in the signature box the details of your phone, i.e. - "Galaxy S5 G900F".This ensures that your device details are shown in every post you make. You can update this as often as you like and will help other users immediately identify your phone and firmware.)

You are already on the latest release for your model and CSC code.

You could now do a Full Wipe+Factory Data Reset as per post #2 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide. This ensures an absolutely clean start with no detritus from previous firmwares. I would even go as far as re-flashing the stock firmware and re-rooting.

This, of course, will not solve any problems with known battery draining apps such as FaceBook if you choose to re-install and use them.

I would suggest installing Gsam battery monitor and monitoring your battery for a couple cycles. Use a Factory reset as a least resort. [emoji217]
