Is my Nexus locked?

I've got a Vodafone UK Nexus and I'm wondering if it is locked to Vodafone or the UK. I don't have a spare SIM card to check - and won't have one until I already actually need it. So my questions are:

• How can I know if my phone is locked without using a separate SIM card?
• Alternatively, are Vodafone contract Nexus Ones locked?
• If they are, how do I unlock?

I looked around this forum but couldn't find any thing relevant - if I'm rehashing old topics please correct me.

Also, be aware that, originally, the android system vodafone phones shipped with wasn't "stock" but some sort of vodaphone version of it.

Yeah ,got mine from Italy and had a EPF30 Voda-crap-version of 2.1 update1 and since it had no warranty ,rooted it and went to stock. Best thing I've done untill now.
