Is NFC secure to use?

I'm getting a new phone and it has a NFC chip. I never though I would ever use it if my phone had it.

Has anyone had any bad experiences using NFC?

Is it secure to use?

Is there anything I should do before using NFC in the stores?

Thanks

As far as I know, commercial nfc can't install anything on your device, it can only send your phone to a website with a download link and as long as you don't select to install that download, you're completely safe

Not sure what you mean by commercial NFC.

The phone I will be getting by mail is the LG Volt. The LG Volt has a NFC chip.

I've used NFC many times, canteen payment card, passport and TFL Oyster card. My phone has NFC, but have only really experimented with it, see what it can do, like reading my canteen card, passport and Oyster card. Think it's secure to use, not been hacked or anything. Not seen any way of using NFC to pay for things yet in stores, I suppose that's coming. NFC enabled credit cards.

NFC can't remotely install anything on your phone, not without you knowing, any more than reading a QR code can, it's only exchanging a very small amount of data.

Sorry, by commercial nfc I meant like the nfc tags you'll see in stores, on billboards etc....
... I'm honestly not sure what an nfc tag is capable of but I'd bet it cant install anything on your device

Thanks 2 both of you. It's clearer now.

BTW, how do I give feedback points to users for helpful answers?
