Is now the time to get an Android phone???

Ok, so I have never had any kind of smartphone, but my roommate has had an iPhone for a while now and, from what I've read, this new Droid is pretty comparable. I'm already a Verizon customer, so it certainly seems appealing, but is now a good time to buy one? The only thing thats really holding me back is that I've been reading about the 10 or so new android phones coming out next year- basically I dont want to drop all this money on a new phone only for it to get blown out of the water by another one in a few months.

Does the Droid have the staying power to make it a must own device, or would it be wiser to see what Google has up its sleeve?

i say go for it. the hardware is very nice; even if you get it now, later when Google releases more features for Android, you can always update your phone to benefit the new features.

I'll be getting at least one over the next few weeks. I love what I see of the Droid but I'm going to be patient and wait for some more reviews to come out and more info about some of the competing devices. With so many phones coming out before Christmas this year, I expect I will have a few more viable options in early December. Maybe even some serious promotion from Sprint to counter the Droid campaign.

Finally, given that my wife is a "Mac" -- I want to get her an iPhone and get an android phone for myself. If AT&T -- in a surprise move -- announces an android phone then that might seal the deal. Otherwise I have to decide if I risk getting her an android phone when I know the iPhone is more her style.

I have had my G1 for quite a long time now, I have always been able to update to the latest and greatest and have been more then happy with it.

If you decide to get the Droid, to answer your question I would say it does have the saying power you are seeking. And you will be able to update like the other guys said. Verizon is planning to release something like 15 phones by the end of the year so you may hold tight to see what they come up with but the droid...is freaking amazing.

Let's face it...Android devices are going to keep getting better and better. If yoiu wait for the next best thing, you're going to be waiting for ever. The Droid is a phenomenal device. Make the leap and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

I would buy what you want when you can.

I believe that the Android system (phones & other devices) are going to be flooding the market soon.

Looks like it could turn into a what you buy today is obsolete at the end of the week.

To me that's a good thing. Progress reduces price and gives more people the ability to have better technology.
