Is Rooting Needed??

Newbie
I just got the Thunderbolt and have not rooted it yet, so my question is...If I have apps for the droid that I downloaded, does it have to be rooted for me to install them or can I put them in a specified folder to make them work?
For instance: angry_birds_riov1.0.apk <---what folder do I put this in?

Thanks to those that help

No rooting needed for games like Angry Birds.
The Thunderbolt should have all the memory you want to load about all the apps you could ever want without even using the sd card.
Some will automatically go to sd, some won't.

You don't need root, what you need is unknown sources to be able to be checked. Then all you do is open the apk file to be installed. You can use astro file manager to navigate to the location of the apk file and install it.

As this does seem a little sketchy why you need to install angry birds rio not from the market, remember if you like a👎 app/game, support the developers.
