Root Is Rooting the way forward?

Simple question is rooting the way forward?

I want to optimise space on my phone as half the apps pre-loaded I don't use.

How easy is it to ;-
a) Root
b) operate a rooted phone

Please be gentle, I am learning here!!!

I know so little for someone who has grown up with technology

a) Rooting is difficult if you don't really understand technology and how to use your computer. There's a lot of helpful material online, but takes a lot of digging around. It helps if there's a video you can watch of someone doing it.
b) operates pretty much like normal, except you can do more. The only risk is if you play around too much you'll do something wrong, BUT you can always flash (basically copy over) the original firmware (software for your hardware) and start over without anyone even knowing you've done something to your phone.

If you feel confident in your ability to learn, just do it.

If youre on a 2.2 firmware then its easy. Use 'Super 1click'. theres plenty of info both here and 'xda-developers.com'. Find the link, download the file, unzip, connect phone, hit the ROOT button. Bingo.
If your on a 2.3 firmware then its more invloved and you will need a custom rom / kernel. Again all the info you need is at your finger tips but i suspect you may need to tread with some caution given your admission in op.
Operating rooted phone. no different except you have more say in what your phone looks like and what it contains.
Seek and ye shall find..

omly trouble with rooting is you can turn into a rom junkie every time a new rom comes out on xda i try it just sometimes wish id stayed with stock lol
