Is Samsung's TouchWiz really slower than the competition?

I'm on a Galaxy Note 3 & everywhere I read, people say to switch to a different launcher asap.
I tied Nova launcher & it didn't seem faster & I didn't like the icons style.

Is Nova Lancher really the fastest & lightest lancher out there?

How big of a resource hog is TouchWiz really?

Touchwiz is more than just a launcher, its the name of Samsung's version of Android and has been known to be laggy until it improved drastically with the s6.
When i used Samsung (a. Galaxy s3) the problem was that the launcher didn't stay cached in ram so it had to "redraw" itself each time you returned home. Nova fixed that.
Also you can change the screen transition speed in Nova from slow to fast as lightening (i keep it at normal)
Nova has far more features than touchwiz launcher and you can customise it with thousands of icon packs

I have to answer your question with a question...

Do you think your phone is slow or laggy? TouchWiz has always been a trade off between features and performance. I know many people who have tried alternate launchers only to miss some of the features TW brought to the phone, while others detest TW and are much happier with an alternate launcher.

That said, even with Nova (or Apex, or any other launcher) you will never really get rid of TouchWiz as a good deal of it's services are baked into the Samsung ROM.

The question shouldn't be which is better or faster as you'll always get a wide range of opinions, but what do you want from your phone? That's something we can help you with. :)

If you don't like the TouchWiz launcher, then try a different one. I use Nova Prime on my GS3, not for performance reasons, but for feature not available on TW. What I use it for is to get rid of that dock on the bottom of the phone and also to be able to add more rows to my home screen. The other feature I like on Nova Prime is that I can overlap widgets. These features allow me to better customise my home screen to my liking.

If you don't have any issues with TW on your phone, just stick with it.
