Is screen supposed to get warm when off?

I have read about some heat issues with the Maxx but it sounds like those are REALLY hot and I am not having that problem. The hottest battery temp reading I have ever seen was 102. But sometimes I pull it out of my pocket and the screen feels warm when I haven't even been using it. One thing I can verify for sure now is I have had it sitting on my desk for about a half hour playing i heart radio with the screen off and the screen is warm. The temp says it is 93. Why would the screen get warm if it is not on?

The screen should not be getting warm when its off. Are you running ICS?

Yes I am running ICS. It is not hot like it will burn you, but it is warm to the touch.

I had a similar problem when I updated to ICS. My phone would run hot, much hotter than on Gingerbread. I installed the .215 leak and I noticed it runs WAY cooler.

I just shut off the app and then it cooled down to like 80, and then turned it on again and it got warm to 93 again. I guess that is really the only thing I run with the screen off so maybe that is why I didn't notice it before. I never really notice the back getting warm because the case is on but I took that off too and it felt about the same as the screen.

So is this .215 an update that will eventually automatically come through to the phone?

Your issue is that you have an app that's running g the processor when the screens off.. so the phones getting hot. An app like watchdog or gsam battery monitor might help you in identifying the runaway app or process. . Then you could shut it down... you might have to delete the app and reinstall it once you find it.:)

Ok that makes sense then because that radio app is running when the screen is off. So if it still gets a little warm when everything is off, I will try what you mentioned to see if something is running I don't know about.

I just thought I'd post about this again because I noticed something. I was at the same house yesterday as I was when I was talking about the screen getting warm in the original post. I wasn't using the phone and didn't have it in my pocket and when I went to pick it up I noticed it was warm. This house has always had poor reception even for phone calls and sometimes when I am there I notice it switches from 4G to 3G and even said 1x before. So am I assuming correctly that the constant searching for a signal and going back and forth between 4G and 3G is causing the heat? Last time I was there I noticed the battery drained quite a bit when I didn't even use it.

Yes. This is my experience also. Poor reception will case the phone to constantly search, causimng it to get warm an deplete the battery.

Yes constantly searching for a better signal will use considerable battery life, and cause it to become warm.
Try forcing it into 3G only and see if that will help.

If it is connected to WIFI, will it still try to search for a signal? If not, I may just have it connect when I am there.
