Is the extra money worth it?

Right now I can get a Droid Razr for 99.99 with a new contract or I can get a Maxx for 249.99. My Droid X is on its last legs. I'll get up in the morning, check my email, check my Twitter, and send a few text messages and my battery will already be down to 60 or 70 and by the time I'm done with my first class I'm down to 40. Heaven forbid I actually get lost going somewhere and need to use Google Maps. Needless to say it's time to upgrade. Is the Maxx really worth the extra money? It seems there's quite a bit of a price jump. To me the only difference is the insane battery life in the Maxx, which I must admit, is rather appealing since I've been putting up with a busted X for about 4 months now. I would root either one and take off the bloatware and what not to help with battery life which is why I'm leaning towards the regular Razr right now. Can anyone give me some insight?

For me it wasn't worth it. For $30 you can buy an external backup battery that would give you about twice the overall battery life of the maxx. Since Im constantly by some form of power outlet, and if I'm not i can easily bring a backup battery with me, it wasn't worth the price difference. YMMV.

You should be able to get the maxx cheaper if you shop around or wait a bit, but yea I can see the predicament. That's a nice.

where have u seen it cheaper? I've been pounding the net and haven't found anything that beats $249

On a 2 year contract it works out to < $10 a month difference. Is $10 a month worth it to have full 4g whenever and not worry about your battery at all as long as you charge at night? It is to me!

You'll be good either way; however, as a biased Maxx owner, I think the cost is worth it! As a former D'Inc & G'Nex owner, I never knew just how much I would appreciate a fabulous battery! No more tinkering with settings, back-up power, outlet access etc. Unplug and go...and go...and go....I have 50% battery after 17 hrs of moderate use.

Whether you pay $199 or $249,the added benefit of worry-free all-day battery life is worth the price of admission.

The one-time pain/inconvenience of the higher purchase price will fade quickly as you enjoy the benefits of hassle-free phone life.

Check some of the other forums, especially HTC device forums, & believe me, most would sell their soul for the battery life you'll get from the RAZR MAXX.

100% absolutely positively worth the extra money! I have not plugged my phone in between charges once since I got it. The piece of mind knowing you can go ALL day is priceless in my opinion!!!!

In addition to the difference between buying it from Verizon or Amazon, and I can't speak for your state, but I am in CA. I had a loyalty discount with VZW and could have had it for $199, but after taxes on the full retail, Amazon's $229 with no tax saved me about $30. While I have yet to see the amazing battery life other Maxx owners get, it will last without additional "fillups" for the day. Or, you can always wait until the "next great phone"!!:D

In a word - Yes.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the MAXX again, even if the RAZR was an option at $99.

Ditto. What an absolute pleasure, to use my phone as I wish, when I wish, for as long as I wish, without having to manage the battery life. I absolutely would not buy any other Android phone.

I have a Maxx on 3 lines now. Worth every single penny. Wife was pissed with every other phone for one reason or another. This is the first one she hasn't complained about. At all. First one I haven't been frustrated with looking for roms or hacks to get performance. 4G will eat your battery like a fat kid with cake. Trust, the Maxx is the way to go.

If you're a heavy user at all, it's worth it. I got the Razr for $69.99 on Amazon Wireless and didn't think the Maxx was worth it for the then $299. The Razr's battery isn't up to par for my usage. I'm charging a couple times a day. So I'm actually going with the conversion kit sold by cellphonerepairshop to up my battery to the Maxx's. Would rather have gone with the Maxx from the beginning.

I had my Droid Inc for two years, I plan on having this Maxx for at least as long. The extra cost over two years is more than worth it.

If you go with the RAZR I believe you will be disappointed. At first it was seem great, being that your phone now only holds charge for a short time. But once that wears off and you are dying half way through the day you will be wishing you would have gotten the MAXX. Spend the extra money. It isn't just a bigger battery you are paying for. It is piece of mind as well. Knowing you won't have to worry about your phone dying. Just plug it in when it is convenient i.e. in your car or whilst sleeping, and you are good to go. With heavy use and not plugging it in while I drive(which is only about 30 minutes a day) I can go all day without topping it off mid day. Just do it. You'll thank us later.:listen:

I couldn't agree more with everyone here. The Maxx is worth the extra money. It's even gotten to the point where I'm starting to take the long battery life for granted, it becomes so worry-free. I could never go back to a phone with a regular battery. I'm thoroughly shocked no other manufacturer has done it yet.

If you don't need 4g speeds, turn that off and go with 3g. You just turned your razr into a maxx with one setting. Turning off bluetooth, wifi, dimming the screen all help too.

I'm happy with my razr. Not happy paying $299 for it at verizon two weeks after it came out... but hey next time I know to not get a phone right when it comes out.

They are selling the original for 99 because everyone stopped buying it. Is it worth the difference in battery life? I don't know, it is an individual need. For me, the extra cost is worth having such a beastly battery. I mean seriously, even when this battery is shot and only holds a 70% charge after a couple years, it will still have more capacity than the original Razr. Just saying!

I'd rather not have to turn off many of things that I bought a smartphone to be able to do in order to just be able use it. :)

I should get my MAXX in the mail today. Hopefully, it is as great as everyone is saying and well worth the price.

When first getting the phone, don't judge the battery. Wait a week or so. Once the "tinker time" has worn down lol. I can go a full day without a charge with constantly checking and using my phone. Even though I can do this, I still charge it while in my car. Habit I guess. :D Enjoy your phone!

Well even if you get the Maxx, it's still smart to turn off the things you don't need. Like if you never plan to use bluetooth then turn it off. Only plan to use verizon data? turn off the wifi then.

Sure you can keep them all on but then you won't get the most out of your battery .. normal or maxx version.
