Is the KitKat upgrade for G2 successful or a disaster?

Actually it does work. I will do a video to show you when I get the time. Works wonderfully on verizon.
 
You mean it interprets "CALL xxx xxx xxxx". Yes - they did do away with DIAL, and I feel the accuracy is inferior. It also doesn't confirm the way it used to.
 
Not a disaster, but knock-on doesn't work and battery life is reduced. I factory-reset the device and now battery life is better, but knock-on doesn't work at all.

thats wierd i guess its a shoot and miss....my knock on feature works great and seems to be working better than before.

I will say it again... F.A.C.T.O.R.Y R.E.S.E.T... this is not a KitKat problem, it is an app or conficting configuration issue that was caused in the conversion.

I am agreeing with you in this acejavelin...people are posting issues they are having and 95% of the time they dont factory reset after and upgrade. its highly recommended to do this to get rid of the old and in with the new. I seen post of people saying that after a upgrade that a factory reset is pointless and not needed but it is. a factory reset is a pain but fixes most if not all issues.
 
I agree. I have advised same more times than I can count, and I myself personally have been avoiding doing so because everything appeared fine.

But the voice dialer just isn't working like it should, nor consistent with the report of others (like I can understand the function not working properly, but for it to behave as differently as I'm experiencing - it's REALLY hard to believe).

I need to have the reliability / functionality I have right now for the next few days. I may perform the FDR on Sunday when things are less critical and I can afford some device re-configuration time.

Then I'll be even more of an FDR post-update evangelist (providing it fixes my problem). :D
 
Not really sure why people are so un-easy about doing a FDR? Especially with the G2. I've done more FDR's over the previous couple of months then I care to mention and it's not all that inconvenient. Just use the LG backup program on the phone and back up all your different parameters. Move that file to a desktop because you will lose this file during the FDR. Once the FDR is complete, move the file back to your backup file on the device and run the LG restore app. It takes maybe 15 minutes.

Now full disclosure, you will lose a couple of settings like assigned ring/notification settings and I believe I lost my lock screen wallpaper but everything else was back the way it was prior to the FDR.

Again, it may have taken a total of 30 minutes from the initial backup all the way through to the final restore. Not nearly the 2-3 hours it took me without the LG backup utility the first time I did it.
 
LG backup utility? I don't see that on my Verizon phone. In Settings I do have backup to the Google servers and I have Verizon Cloud.
 
This one? Maybe this is exclusive to the Sprint version? It is an LG app...

I think really it's about it being time consuming. People don't like the idea about having to FDR because it takes time out of their schedule to complete it. I personally don't have an issue because I can always take the time to make my phone look better ;)
 
I have done quite a few of fdr and also flashed multiple roms.

Wonder why that is. Maybe Verizon has their own backup software?

It really is great. I don't have to mess with home screen changes and it even saves my app settings and passwords. It does all that but it doesn't save my wifi or bluetooth settings. Not really a big deal.
 
Quite a disaster, will have to do a factory reset. Lock screen pattern swipe very inconsistent, home screen locks up, battery drains faster, phone heats up, speaker sound barely audible when listening to voice mail messages, drops phone calls, when battery goes down to 10% or lower the phone behaves unpredictably, etc. This is a terrible update and not worth it, extremely unstable.
 
The KitKat that VS pushed onto my phone seems to work perfectly.
Everything is faster.

Is this different than a manual upgrade some of you have hacked?
 
I did the manual update using the VZW update assistance, so far so good. I had KitKat on my Moto X and was looking forward to this. The ONLY issue I seem to be having is connecting to my mirrorcast device at work. It worked fine before the update, and now I can connect but if I try to play video it kicks me off. On the flip side, with jellybean my Chromecast at home had issues staying connected through more that a few minutes of ANYTHING, but since the update it runs like a jet. Nothing but love for KitKat from me!
 
Did the factory reset as suggested here and my phone's back to its old self. In fact, I think it's snappier than before. A great update I have to say after the factory reset.
 
4.4.2 seems fine on my Verizon version. Running Google Now Launcher and using as many Google apps as possible to make it like a Nexus device. I've only had it since Tuesday though sooooooo
 
I noticed there are people complaining about the KitKat update. If you don't like it head over to XDA and follow method on reverting back to jb.
