Is the Passion really the HTC Bravo?

A poster claims that the Unlockr images that were originally speculated as the Passion are actually a phone called the HTC Bravo.

Although I wouldn't normally lend credence to a random forum poster, this guy did give the name as the HTC Bravo over a month before the codename 'Bravo' showed up for the first time in the recent ROM.

He also claims that the Bravo will be feature a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 3.7" screen, and will be released in late Q1/early Q2. That would make sense if it is the phone that an HTC executive recently called the successor to the Hero, since he said it would be unveiled in February:

It gets a bit confusing though, because the poster later goes on to say that the Bravo will not look like the Unlockr picture and is not the same phone as the Passion and Dragon (which makes sense since those phones were also listed in the recent ROM). However it is possible that Passion, Dragon, and Bravo are all flavors of the same basic device like the GSM Hero, Sprint Hero, and Droid Eris.

Anyway, the guy said he would post pictures and specs by the end of this week in that thread. Obviously there is not much proof at this point, but it is at least a more entertaining rumor than anything else that has come along lately.

Very interesting to say the least. I will be very curious to see if he in fact posts this brochure he is talking about. He certainly gives the impression that he knows what he is talking about, I guess soon enough we will know if he was right or not.

Nice find and summary. So far I have not seen an xda report discredited. My impression so far is that anyone with a high post count on that forum is pretty much for real.

P.S. DROID Bravo = hot! Fits with the B1 bomber theme in their DROID commercials.

Not really experienced with XDA posters, but I do know that one particularly did a pretty good benchmark post on the HTC Leo (and kept referring to it as the Leo and not HD2). It wouldn't surprise me someone has the 2010 lineup for HTC. The 2009 was leaked back in January. The lists share (2009+leaked rom names) some common values like: Memphis, Sapphire, etc. I do wonder if some of the 2009 phones have been remade for 2010 as the Beryl kinda looks like the Bravo.

From that same guy, he says these are the 2010 devices Android Devices: Legend Salsa (With QWERTY keyboard) Bravo (NOT Passion and/or Dragon) Tide Buzz

if this happened, I would be such a happy man. Knowing I'm getting the equivalent out of all of the snapdragon phones would be such a peace of mind

I will be buying this phone looks sweet, can't wait till the launch on it. Even thought I just got my Eris on the BOGO I'll just buy this beautiful baby outright!

It appears that SenseUI on 2.0 is the reason for the delay. Personally, I wish they would release it before Christmas with 1.5 and upgrade later....

That would provide a segmented and undesirable user experience. My guess is that this device has been built for 2.0 from the beginning. If they need more time to polish 2.0 with Sense, so be it.

If any software has to do with the delay its more likely to do with the graphics drivers which HTC has had problems with due to licensing issues (I believe thats the issue with less optimized drivers). They already have announced the Eris upgrade to 2.0 (or 2.1) for Q1 of 2010 so Sense cant be causing that much of a problem.

Well, it only reflects their ETA on when they expect to deliver 2.0 devices. If they knew they'd be ready then, why not announce 2.0 for existing devices too?

I would assume it has to be optimized for each device? So, just because they are ready to release a new phone at a specific date, doesn't mean they have it optimized in the other environments yet. Just a guess. Not trying to state fact.

They've basically said that the Droid Eris, an existing device on Verizon will get updated to at least 2.0 in Q1. The reason for lack of an exact date most likely has to do with working out the details with Verizon as VZW will have to push it out.
