Hello all
is the ZTE R259 android capable? it has a 1.3GHz Quad-Core CPU and a pretty small ROM of 32mb. Interna: 32MB ROM / 32MB RAM, No touchscreen and takes an external minisd max 8gb.
It looks like BlackBerry :)

The phone is pretty basic, my question is if its posible to install an Android version onto it?

thx

Welcome to Android Forums!
32MB RAM is scant little and will probably not support any operating system. Plus, Android is a touch-based system, so without a touchscreen I'm not sure what you would expect to accomplish with it. I would, then, surmise that your device would not support Android.

Ok thanks guys, althoug not really what I wanted to hear.
Older android version I also should forget about then?
Might be able to get a BB OS for an oldish spec phone :)

A mobile OS has to be built specifically for the device. This is true for any mobile OS - there's no generic download that you can install on any phone (or any phone with enough space - 32MB RAM won't run any version of Android).

So frankly I doubt that you'll be able to install any different OS on it. There's a dual challenge here of building the OS (whether Android or BB) for a phone that was never intended to run it, and then getting the OS onto the phone in the first place. That's if it's possible at all: the hardware architecture is likely to be rather different from a smartphone, and it's possible that key elements of the system are genuinely hard-coded. TBH I don't think rate your chance of success very high.

Well Hadron, I wonder if I could install onto a flashcard as OS like android.
the phone easily accepts a 32 GB memory card. I am aware that it has no touch screen though.

Still I think it might be possible to install a modified android version onto the card, RAM has to be located via swap onto the card itself as with the phone's own 32mb RAM not much or anything [ .) ] fits that spec. 1.3GHz Quad-Core CPU should be fast enough to handle android.

Can it be done?

Thx in advance

Is the phone capable of booting from a flash card?
Who is going to build the custom version of android for this device?
And no, a flash card cannot work as RAM. Swapping (virtual memory) is not the same as physical RAM at all, and you cannot run an OS from the swap file - there is a minimum OS you need to be able to fit in RAM for it to work, and then there must be some space for an app (nothing can run while it is swapped out of RAM). And even if you could it would be so frustratingly laggy & slow that you'd be better off with an abacus ;)

So sorry, but I really don't think this can work.

I no one ever tried it I might be the first. So far I only have got negative answers.
At xda-developers they modify Android OSs but the ZTE 259 is not among them :(

Most of the modding on XDA is creating customised Android builds for devices that are already designed to run Android. Doing it for a device that wasn't designed for Android is harder, and there are very few cases where this has been done. The HTC HD2 is legendary in this respect: designed for Windows Phone in 2009 they have managed to port Android 6.0 onto it! However, that device had a large, enthusiastic developer community, was closer internally to early Android devices, and crucially it has 448 MB of RAM, 14 times what your device has. And as I say, very few devices get Android ported to them that weren't originally designed for it.

The HD2? If by BREW you mean Qualcomm's "Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless", no, it was released with Windows Phone 6.5.

If you mean the ZTE R259, as far as I can tell it's a feature phone, which would mean it's most likely running some private OS of the manufacturer's - conceivably that could be based on BREW, but I can find no hint anywhere that this is the case.

In other words..you are better off with the oldest of the oldest Samsung..you still can find some of those out there..about three weeks ago I was at the flea market and bumped in to a Samsung galaxy Y 2.3.5, that was so funny to see one of those with not owner..the guy wanted like $30 for it..I could've got it..but wasn't in the mood..jijijiji..that would be a wonderful finding for your self, don't you think so?

I know XDA. But the question of where to getnthe drivers for the device still stands. Not to mention the actual physical capabilities of the device.
