Yes, I'll say it - like the iphone has?!!

Is TrueCaller - CallerID the kinda application that your looking for?
Doesn't the stock phone application do this if you have pictures set in your contacts? Thanks, but no. Basically I'm looking for the full screen, caller ID picture of whose calling but with the buttons to go to speaker, dialpad, conference, etc... I have "full screen caller ID" free app but the pictures dont look good, and there seem to be issues with it....

No, some phones don't have the picture going full screen (or anything close to it). My Ally doesn't.
I have hundreds of contacts' phone numbers. I only have images of a couple dozen of those contacts. Relatives and close friends. Should I go around taking pictures of everybody, including Joe the plumber now?
For me name and number are enough caller ID.
Besides: blocked/'private' numbers and numbers not in my phonebook go straight to my voicemail anyway. Courtesy of the free 'Mr. Number Call Block' app. If it's someone who really needs me they'll leave a message. If not: even better. That was probably a 'marketeer' from India or a debt collector anyway!

And so did symbian/s40 ages ago.Same here. My samsung captivate shows about a 1" x 1" picture. This is one thing the iphone did well!
Hmm... Maybe I'm missing it - but I don't see an app suggestion in there?
Facebook and Gmail sync with your contact book, so most of my phonebook has a picture due to that.
Thanks for helping!

Are your contact pics on the phone or google contact synced?I have the paid version of Full Screen Caller ID.....love it. Does exactly what I want it to do. Pictures aren't blurred..but in their full high-quality glory. I never understood why the contact pictures are so small by default on phones these days......I want a big HD pic to appear when a friend calls....not some little tiny thing.

Very few had any good things to say about the only FS Caller ID app available.
