Is there a program that disables BG apps completely?

I am currently using a Samsung Intercept and so far there has been no "safe" way to enter the root without bricking it or taking a risk.

I am currently using Advanced Task Killer and I ALWAYS see the same apps running after killing them and turning my phone on from sleep mode. Amazon MP3, Gtalk, Voice search, etc. Apps I never even touch prior from starting up the phone from sleep mode. These are pre-installed apps on the phone that I want to get rid of and for some reason it keeps running itself in the background automatically. Can't find anything in their preference menu either.

There are lots of apps on the menu that cannot be removed for some reason. I already tried uninstalling the apps I dont want manually but it says "Uninstall not successful". Also tried a couple uninstalling programs but those ones aren't listed for some reason. It just shows recent apps I installed.

If you're running 2.2 I'm not aware of any not root way to limit background apps. Even with root you can only seem to limit how much can be active like that with apps like autokiller that tweaks how the OS manages tasks.

With Task Killer apps though, you're just wasting more battery life than if you'd let things run it's course. The apps don't really seem to take up that much battery life running in the background like that, but when you're constantly killing them with a Task Manager the OS is fighting to keep thinks running the way it thinks it should.

Just wait patiently for a safe rooting method to come out and you'll be able to get rid of them, that's my advice.

once rooted you could use TI back up and freeze the apps no need to delete just incase you need to flash.
But you must root to do this..
sorry

Have a look at the Sync settings. Some apps are started when sync happens (HTC's stock is the one that bugs me ;-). You can disable them from synching there too.

Some of the apps are started if you search, disable all the search providers under the search settings.

Not sure what the Amazon mp3 thing is, but maybe it's a DRM service?
