Root Is there a solid, working root method for this phone on Metro PCS?

Lurker
I've been reading for hours, and finding all sorts of conflicting data about rooting the Galaxy Light on Metro PCS.

I've found people who claim to have rooted their phone (but not many details, or links to the files they used), people who bricked their phones, people who inadvertently switched their phones to tmobile and now they don't work on MetroPCS, people who said the latest version makes it difficult to root and that previous root methods from a few months ago don't work, and on and on. I haven't found any solid info.

So can someone point me in the right direction, and spell it out in black and white?
If I buy this phone right now (January 16, 1015) from Metro PCS. Is there a current working and proven method to root it, and install TWRP or Clockworkmod recovery?

Thanks.

First follow these instructions,
TWRP - 2.7.0.0 - gardaltetmo /-/ Mirror
Odin

1) Power off your device
2) Hold volume down, home and power until you see the warning screen
3) Press volume up
4) Load up Odin and uncheck auto reboot
5) Click PDA and select the TWRP tar you downloaded.
6) Connect your device and look for a yellow/blue COM in Odin
7) Click start
8) Pull battery out of your device
9) Power on the phone holding volume up, home and power until the samsung galaxy light screen appears.
10) Enjoy TWRP

As DeadHack said above,is how I did mine. I am new to rooting phones but can tell you I did it following these instructions and it worked for me. Here is the thread from with other post that maybe useful. Since my phone was newer then when the post was made, I followed post#3 regarding Supersu for GL that would have kitkat 4.4. Disabling knox never came up that I saw. I'm rooted and love it. Xposed framework and Wanam to say a few, make the phone great. Hopefully others with more experience then I will chime in as well. Good luck

With that complete, find or google super super 2.40 zip and flash in recovery. Done, rooted, enjoy.
What Deadhack said. I was replying trying fill in the steps for kk4.4 and once I posted it, Deadhack had it all there. It worked for me and like I said I am a noob, although learning a lot from others..

Thank you so much Deadhack69 and Stinger2k. I ordered the phone, and I will follow your instructions once it arrives. much appreciated.

And great tip on Xposed framework and Wanam. I wasn't familiar with them before , but after looking at them briefly I plan to most likely use them. In the past I had a Galaxy S (version 1) I used to just flash a custom rom and call it good. But since there don't seem to be a ton proven of custom roms out there for this phone, I'm thinking just tweaking the stock rom will be the way to go, and xposed seems like a great way to do it.

I really need a remedial version of this I'm afraid. I rooted only one phone in my life years ago. It worked but I have no recall of what I did any more.

Is Odin something that goes on my laptop AND phone? Where on the phone would it go?

What does this mean, was this supposed to be a link:

First follow these instructions,
TWRP - 2.7.0.0 - gardaltetmo /-/ Mirror
Odin

I accessed the link that had all the files in one place, I just don't know what to do with them once I download them.

I really just want be able to get rid of some of the metro bloatware, don't need to necessarily change the operating system (ROM?) But am ok doing it if that's what I need to do to get rid of the bloatware.

If someone can just fill in the blanks a little for me I should be ok. Otherwise, I guess I can live with metro's bloatware.

Don't know if you still need help rooting your phone but here's some help. Odin is a computer program. It only goes on your computer. Twrp 2.7.0.0 is the recovery you're gonna flash in odin. I think in the filed was an update supersu zip file or something? That will be flash in recovery mode.

Thank God I found this thread. DeadHack is a genius. Was having difficulty installing the superSU.zip. But with his direction to upgrade TWRP to a newer version BERFORE flashing superSU.zip,.. I was finally able to gain root access. Hallelujah!

It wasn't as smooth a process for me as I gather most here, but his 3 posts above laying out a step by step procedure, allowed me to finish the superSU install with a popup dialog box, prompting me to finish the superSU install.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, DeadHack!
Also Shabby, Unjustified Dev and the rest of the fine people here.
