Is there a way to change the icon and name of an app on android ?

i installed Nova launcher but coundn't find how to do it as the interface is a bit confusing. I'm now searching on the "Nova Settings" but couldn't find how. Thanks !!

Actually you can even do this in the app drawer, as long as you are actually using Nova as your launcher.

Once you have the edit option, bring up the edit screen, tap on the icon, then either select the icon pack you want to choose an icon from or else choose "gallery apps" to pick an image you want to use. I assume you do have a copy of the icon you wish to use on the phone - it cannot dig an icon out of another app's resources.

Some other launchers probably also support changing the icon, but the steps are exactly as @Hadron described.

After installing Nova did you switch from your old launcher to using Nova?

Why would i do so ? I only want to edit an app, not change the theme nor use another launcher. Sorry if i seem a little lost, i'm not an android pro so try to be a little bit more clear. Thanks !!

The desktop and app drawer are both provided by the launcher app. So if you want to change the icon you see for an app the simplest way to do so is to use a launcher that allows you to substitute an icon of your choice for the one included in the app. That's why everyone is talking about launchers.

If your phone's built-in launcher does not provide this facility (and it looks like it doesn't - most built-in launchers do not) then the only way I can think of is to get a copy of the apk, open it up, modify the icon within it, rezip it and replace the app you have with the modified one. Of course if you ever update the app you'll have to do this again. (There are also possible problems with app signing, if the app/your phone cares about that).

Using a different launcher is a simpler solution.

As for "unclear", bear in mind that you were puzzling everyone else. Nova is a launcher, it says so in the app name. So if you'd run Nova, edited the icon, then found that the edit didn't remain when you returned to your original launcher that would have made sense and we could have explained that. But I don't think anyone understood what you were actually doing with Nova if you weren't using it as a launcher.

I made a short video of how I change my app icons.
Using Nova Launcher. I have the icon pack C9 Alt Blue by Coastal Images installed (among other icon packs)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coastalimages.c9_alt_blue&hl=en
(there are many free ones from other devs to choose from too)

As said earlier by others, choose your icon that is on your homescreen. Long press on it, and choose "Edit " (see @psionandy 's post )

Then click on the icon picture itself and you will be presented with a choice of available icon packs...in my case, C9 Alt Blue.
Scroll through the icon options, click it, and then save it.

Hope this helps :)
