Is there a way to change the icon and name of an app on android ?

Ah ok thanks KBU2. So any other solutions ? Thanks !!

Are you willing to change launchers in the hope of changing your icons and app names? Or you can try Rename and Change Android Apps Icon. Step 1: First of all, we will need the APK package of the app you want to rename and change the icon for. If you don't have the APK with you, but the app is installed on your phone, you can easily compile its APK using the Astro file manager.

I still have the APK with me.

You can use the same wallpaper and the system settings will look the same. App drawer will look a little different.

It allows lots of customizations not included in stock launchers so you can change things if you don't like the default look. You can switch back if you want, but for what you want to do a new launcher is the easiest way.

Press and hold the icon you want to modify. You should get a pop-up menu, then select "edit". From there you can change the name, and if you click on the icon you can change that (it will give you the option to choose from any icon packs you have installed or use a gallery app to select your own image - you do need a copy of the icon you want to use on the device somewhere).

Edit the app, from the app drawer, and it will change it on the home screen too.

I believe that once you get going with Nova, you'll appreciate some of the additional features.

Hmm well you have to test the Samsung galaxy s9 UI to be able to judge by urself. It's so catchy that i can't let it go. No other way not involving a launcher ?

No. You are editing how Nova presents the icon and label, not the app itself or how a different launcher presents it.

Actually if it could do either of those things it would be a massive security hole, since if you can modify another installed app's internal resources or data you could use that to do far more malicious things than just changing the way an app icon appears.

Ah ok i see so no actual workaround whitout Nova Launcher ? I guess i saw somebody talking about the code of the app or something like that !! Thanks !!

Actually I think I said something about editing the code of the app early in the thread, though I also said that using a launcher which lets you customise these things is a simpler way.

Sorry, a personal thing but I don't do videos (they take too much time to say too little, as well as disturbing people around me or requiring me to find headphones).

What utilities does the launcher disable? The only thing I can think of is that manufacturers often provide widgets of their own which only work with their own launcher, but there are usually substitutes.

You've got your choice of using a launcher which can provide you with the features you want (Nova isn't the only one). Or, hacking an existing app that will be reset with every update, if not breaking the app itself. The only other thing you can do is learn to code and then write your own app with the same feature as the app you already are using, but with the name and icon you want.

I can't say about renaming an app using the Samsung stock launcher, but don't they have themes that will change the icon? Maybe you can find something that suits you there.
